Shopee Strengthens Buyer Confidence with On-Time Guarantee Program

Shopee’s ‘The Future of Shopping: Engaging Generation Z Shoppers in the Digital Era’ market study in collaboration with Kantar found that 70% of Malaysian Gen Z’s will shop online if they are confident of a smooth delivery experience. Survey respondents prioritised in particular free shipping with no minimum spend and next day delivery whenever hitting the checkout button.

In fact, two thirds of Gen Z’s surveyed base their confidence on Shopee's established fulfilment practices. They review the platform’s flexible shipping options, on-time delivery guarantee, customer testimonials about delivery in good condition, and use real-time order tracking consistently to have peace of mind. The study also found that 70% of Malaysian Gen Z’s are more likely to hop over from social media platforms to e-commerce sites like Shopee to complete their shopping purchases.

In response to these evolving shopping behaviours, Shopee is introducing the On-Time Guarantee program commencing on 6 May. By implementing the On-Time Guarantee, Shopee is directly addressing a key consumer's preference for timely delivery, ultimately strengthening buyer confidence and driving repeat business on the platform.

Ming Kit Tan, Head of Marketing and Business Intelligence at Shopee Malaysia, said “Gen Zs seek a frictionless buying experience with both efficiency and transparency throughout the entire purchase journey. Focusing on customer centricity and enhancing the overall shopping experience, we also introduced the 15-Days Free Returns, No Questions Asked* program to empower buyers with unparalleled flexibility, allowing for ‘Change Of Mind’ returns on eligible items with a seamless and hassle-free process. By putting our users’ needs first, we aim to build an unwavering foundation of trust, fostering peace of mind for all Shopee users through consistent attention to their concerns and preferences.”

To support these evolving needs and to better serve customers, Shopee’s logistics partner, SPX Express, is proactively expanding its delivery capacity and coverage area throughout 2024. Their extensive network of over 140 hubs and warehouses, coupled with a robust network of 1,200 service points provides buyers with both timely delivery and convenient self-collection points.

SPX Express is further bolstering its customer-centric approach by expanding self-collection points outside the Klang Valley to 700 within the next six months. This strategic move allows shoppers to seamlessly integrate package collection into their daily routines.

#ShopSafeWithShopee | 9 in 10 Malaysians Choose Shopee for Safe Online Shopping Experience

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, today announced the results of #ShopSafeWithShopee survey that found 9 in 10 Malaysians prefer Shopee for safe online shopping. The survey also found that 8 in 10 Malaysians feel that Shopee provides the best scam support when shopping online.

Factors Influencing Buyers’ Decisions

When selecting a platform for online shopping, the top factor that influences Malaysian buyers is their ability to have safe shopping transactions, such as secure payment methods, clear return and money back policies, authentic/verified products, and great customer service resolutions.

This is especially true for shoppers aged 35 to 49 years old, whereas younger shoppers aged 18 to 34 years old place greater emphasis on the popularity of the platform (assuming if more people use it, it's safe) and the wide assortment of products available.

#ShopSafeWithShopee survey was conducted among 1,000 Malaysian shoppers aged 18 and above. It found that the features that give shoppers the most peace of mind on Shopee are:

  • Platform features that allow customers to verify sellers, such as 4-to-5 star store ratings, live demos on Shopee live stream, and seller chat functions (34%)

  • Shopee Mall features, such as genuine premium brands, money-back guarantees, and the Authentic Deals Circle (33%)

  • Shopee Guarantee, which releases money to sellers only when the customer confirms receipt of goods (29%)

“We are committed to providing our shoppers with a safe and secure online shopping experience,” said Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing at Shopee Malaysia. “We have a number of initiatives in place to protect our shoppers, including Shopee Guarantee, Shopee Mall, and our dedicated scam support team. We remain committed to building a safe and secure environment for our users for an enjoyable shopping experience.”

Shoppers’ Awareness Levels about Scams

80% of shoppers consider themselves ‘sufficiently knowledgeable’ to ‘very knowledgeable’ about online shopping scams, whereas 20% have encountered situations involving counterfeit purchases, contact from suspicious sellers, or susceptibility to scams. 50% of respondents are worried about data breach (account stolen/hacked, stolen bank details), and  20% are concerned by fake sellers/counterfeit goods.

The survey also found that 30% of survey respondents have been a victim of an online scam in the last year. However, 70% said they were very lucky to avoid being scammed. The majority of those who were scammed were shopping for home and living products, followed by fashion and lifestyle items, and electronics. Both males and females across all age groups were equally susceptible to being a victim – scammers do not discriminate.

Of those who fell victim to scams, 38% reported it to Shopee Chat’s Live Agents to seek timely support. An equal number of respondents also reported to the relevant authorities, namely, the CCID via the Scam Response Center or Infoline, PDRM via SEMAKMULE, and to the National Scam Response Center hotline. 10% posted the experience on social media to inform the public, and 20% do not report these incidences.

How Malaysians Choose Trusted Sellers Online

In addition to the safety features offered by the platform itself, Malaysians also rely on social proof and other buyer endorsements when choosing a seller to buy from online. According to the survey, 7 in 10 respondents said that other buyer endorsements matter, with 33% looking at testimonials and reviews, 24% looking at store ratings, 12% looking at the number of loyal followers of the store, and 4% looking at top sales for the keywords searched.

The remaining buyers surveyed also check seller chat performance, cancellation rates and seller verification such as Shopee Mall, Preferred and Preferred+ tags to pick sellers to buy from

This data suggests that Malaysians value the opinions of other buyers when making online purchases. They are also likely to choose sellers who have been verified by Shopee or who have a good track record of customer service. Social proof matters especially for buyers of Automotive, FMCG, Toys, Kids and Babies, Groceries and Pets, and Home and Living items.

#DriveAgainstDiabetes With Diabetes Malaysia and Ascensia Diabetes Care!

Malaysia has the highest rate of diabetes in Asia, and more effort is required to both understand the root cause of this problem and engage high-risk individuals at the grassroots level to improve the prevention, diagnosis and management of this disease.

In support of the Ministry of Health’s on-going war against diabetes, Ascensia Diabetes Care, the world’s leading provider of solutions for diabetes care, has been spearheading a unique campaign aimed at reaching out to communities within the Klang Valley to promote the pro-active prevention and management of diabetes. At the same time, the campaign also aims to gather better insights into why Malaysians have an apathetic attitude when it comes to diabetes.

The six-month campaign called ‘#DriveAgainstDiabetes’ was conducted in collaboration with Diabetes Malaysia. At the heart of the campaign is a full-size 44-seater passenger bus unit that will travel to various high-traffic locations throughout the Klang Valley.

The bus carries a team of trained individuals from both Diabetes Malaysia and Ascensia, who will provide free blood sugar check-up and engage members of the public with a host of interactive activities such as games and contests centered around diabetes with attractive giveaways.

The campaign is designed to educate people on diabetes symptoms, prevention and management. As an important part of the campaign, participants are also being asked to fill out a survey, aimed at acquiring better insights into urbanites' mindset in relation to diabetes.

Maximilian Lim, Business Manager of Ascensia Diabetes Care Malaysia, said “#DriveAgainstDiabetes" is Ascensia Diabetes Care Malaysia’s initiative in Malaysia to support the on-going War on Diabetes.”

“We understand that Malaysians are both well-educated and well-aware of the disease but are not taking proactive efforts to prevent the disease or get diagnosed. We want to understand why, so that we can provide ways to overcome these barriers to better prevention.”

“At the same time, as a world-renowned diabetes care solutions provider, we also want to drive home the message that Accuracy, Balance, and Commitment are the key elements to preventing or managing this condition effectively in at-risk Malaysians and those who have diabetes," he added.

‘#DriveAgainstDiabetes’ campaign started in January 2019 and will stop at 20 locations in total. To date, the campaign has successfully engaged more than 11,000 people from selected venues in Kajang, Kepong, Bangi, Semenyih, Bangsar, Petaling Jaya Town, Kuala Lumpur City Center, Puchong, Klang, Selayang, Shah Alam, and Ampang.

Prof Datuk Dr. Ikram Shah Ismail, President of Diabetes Malaysia, added, “It is essential that all Malaysians, including those living with diabetes, learn how to detect the early signs of this condition and manage their lifestyle effectively.”

“Diabetes Malaysia will continue to support initiatives like ‘#DriveAgainstDiabetes’, which we are confident will drive more Malaysians to take charge of their own lives and encourage their loved ones to do the same, especially during this festive period," he concluded.

‘#DriveAgainstDiabetes’ campaign also conduct a Malaysian Health Status Survey for the community to participate. Research survey link : https://research2.ipsosinteractive.com/mriweb/mriweb.dll?i.project=S19008930
