Carousell Marks Success Of #MYLOCALWIRA Campaign Via Family Day Together With Parents Without Partners

Carousell, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing mobile classified marketplaces, celebrated the success of its #MYLocalWira pro-social campaign with a Family Day party held in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

A total of RM8, 000 was raised for the campaign’s beneficiary, Parents Without Partners (PWP), a charitable organisation established to help single parents in need, through the sales of preloved items on Carousell donated by notable Malaysian personalities. They were squash legend Datuk Nicol David, Malaysia’s first female ONE Championship mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete and Global Citizen Ambassador Ann Osman, international model and renowned fashion and beauty entrepreneur Amber Chia, professional motorsport athlete and Malaysia's "Drift Queen” Leona Chin, world-class diver Leong Mun Yee, national gymnast Farah Ann and three times national Olympic track cyclist Josiah Ng. The latest to team up with Carousell was Malaysia’s badminton hero, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, who offered his personal badminton racket that came with an autographed sleeve to the campaign.

Carousell believes in the importance of giving back, and we strive to be an active participant in building a supportive community not just among Carousell members but among all Malaysians. Ours is a platform that cares, and we hope this Family Day celebration brings families and communities closer together,” said Mr Tang Siew Wai, Country Head, Carousell Malaysia.

The party was a fun-filled experience for PWP members and their children, with lightsaber training led by the Star Wars Malaysia Fan Club, a magic show and balloon sculptures by Uncle Charlie, the clown, and activities like a storytelling session by the KL Book Appreciation Club and sand art, with ice-cold treats from Inside Scoop.  Present in support of this event were #MYLocalWira advocates Farah Ann and Josiah Ng.

“We are very appreciative of the support we have received from Carousell – it’s a really good online marketplace for Malaysians to sell and buy at reasonable prices, which is very helpful for those who are on a budget. We also thank all the people who bid on the items,” said Mr Adrian Ong, Director and Operations Manager, Parents Without Partners.

The daily demands of raising a family are tough, especially for single parents and these funds will go a long way towards daily necessities such as rent, groceries and school supplies for the children.”

PWP raises funds primarily through the sale of preloved items at their thrift store, Jumble Station. Today, Malaysians can also contribute to this charitable organisation by purchasing the items on Carousell (pwpofficial).

TENA Empower Geriatric Lifestyle Care Among Malaysians | Care | Challenge | Improvement

Take care of geriatric is a need and responsible for all. TENA, The Understanding Specialist and Continence Foundation of Malaysia recently launched the ‘Sentiasa Denganmu Mak Abah di Mana Jua: Idea Mudah Untuk Rumah, Ibu Bapa Kita Lebih Selesa’ Campaign to empower adult children to be more aware of the little things they can do and how they can play an active role in understanding the many challenges their parents face, including the onset of incontinence which occurs in 1 out of 2 older persons .

As incontinence can affect one’s parents’ mobility and quality of life, the campaign offers practical suggestions from experts on proper care, management and simple improvements in their homes to help elderly parents feel more comfortable while reducing the risk of falls.

Incontinence affects 1.4 million Malaysians and is estimated to increase by 4.5% annually.1 Despite this, studies have shown that 69% do not seek help  largely due to embarrassment and social stigma.

“At TENA, we firmly believe that an active life with incontinence is still possible, hence the need to raise greater awareness so that the condition can be managed effectively with the RIGHT solutions and support, especially from family members,” said Debby Ho, Marketing Manager, Vinda Malaysia. “The last thing our parents want to do is to trouble us, and it is even tougher for them to bring up a sensitive topic such as incontinence. This is why TENA recognizes the great need to empower children with simple steps and small gestures that can help our parents feel as comfortable as possible, especially at home, without making them feel small,” she explained.

In line with this, TENA works with experts to provide holistic solutions including simple home improvement ideas as well as product solutions, such as TENA Pants, an absorbent underwear which enables them retain their dignity and freedom to enjoy their golden years without fear or embarrassment.

“Incontinence is very common, affecting approximately 50% of older persons. This impacts their lives in many ways, from remaining homebound out of embarrassment or visiting the toilet frequently throughout the day. As they are staying at home for most of the day, it is of utmost importance to prevent our elderly parents from a fall as it could lead to many other complications such as difficulty recovering, as well as other complications if they are hospitalized,” explained Dr Peter Ng, consultant urologist and president of Continence Foundation of Malaysia.

In addition to using TENA Pants, simple home improvements can make a big difference since elderly parents spend the most time at home. In support of the ‘Sentiasa Denganmu Mak Abah di Mana Jua: Idea Mudah Untuk Rumah, Ibu Bapa Kita Lebih Selesa’ Campaign, renowned Malaysian designer Dr Eric Leong shares home improvement ideas in phases on the TENA Facebook page (www.faceboook.com/TENA.Malaysia) and TENA website (www.tena.com.my).

“One of the best things we can do for our parents is help them maintain their independence, and home ideas in the bedroom, bathroom and living room can make it much easier for them to move around safely,” said Dr Leong. “These can be complemented with the right colours and refreshing scents to make their homes more relaxing.”

In addition to recommendations from experts, the campaign also provides other educational support through the TENA website, where the Caring 101 e-Handbook can be downloaded and product samples can be requested.

Go Green Effort ‘Plant A Tree, Grow A Forest’ Together By Botaneco Garden And Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur At Bukit Jalil

Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest! Let’s join Botaneco Garden as the nature-inspired personal care brand raises funds to plant Malaysian rainforest trees at selected locations within the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) managed Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil.

Throughout August 2019, one percent of all Botaneco Garden Product Sales from Guardian stores nationwide will be channelled to planting Malaysian rainforest trees with wide canopies to provide shade close to the main lake at Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil.

This is the third consecutive ‘Plant A Tree, Grow A Forest’ annual environmental  initiative by Botaneco Garden, a nature-inspired personal care line is made from an innovative and sophisticated blend of botanical ingredients and eco-certified oils with a free from specific harmful chemicals that is safer for users and for the environment. The brand includes various hair and body care lines for adults as well as a line for babies and toddlers. It is available, nationwide, exclusively at Guardian, and at the Guardian e-store. There are more than 400 Guardian outlets nationwide.

The brand has partnered with DBKL, to support the council’s Towards 70 by 30 drive, which is in line with the Kuala Lumpur Low Carbon Society Blueprint 2030 which targets to reduce the city’s emission intensity by 70% by 2030

Increasing the number of trees planted is a step towards reducing emission intensity. Trees use the energy of sunlight, and through the process of photosynthesis they take carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and water from the ground. In the process of converting it into wood they release oxygen into the air. In addition to the CO2 that trees capture, they also help soil capture significant amounts of carbon .

City parks helps to make nature more accessible to the public, and can help in promoting healthier and more active lifestyles. The Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil is an ideal location for the Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest initiative as it is a popular recreational city park famed for its walking and jogging trails, lakes, themed international gardens including a dedicated area for people with disabilities, playgrounds and reflexology paths.

On weekends and during ‘wedding season’ it is thronged for bridal and nature photography. Families and animal lovers gather at the lakeside area to feed the fish and tortoises, while enjoying the scenery.

Mouse mommy and family love to have morning walk or run there during weekend too!

Funds collected via the Botaneco Garden Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest initiative will be channelled to plant selected Malaysian rainforest trees at the lakeside area to provide shade at the seating area to encourage people to stay longer to take in more of nature, while helping reduce carbon emission.

“Botaneco Garden is a nature-inspired personal care range and we are so pleased to be able to inspire people through nature via the Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest environmental initiative. Partnering with DBKL to plant rainforest trees at Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil will help us get our message of loving and respecting nature to more people. We hope that our customers will support this initiative, and visit Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil to see what they have contributed to,” said Ms Michelle Yeap, Marketing Manager, Health & Beauty, South East Asia Guardian Health & Beauty Sdn Bhd.

Botaneco Garden and DBKL are upping the engagement levels with the public for this campaign by crowdsourcing ideas on the Malaysian rainforest trees that will be planted at the site through the ‘Pick A Tree’ interaction on the Guardian Malaysia Facebook page, and the Botaneco Garden Instagram of mybotanecogarden

The five shortlisted trees are Diospyros pilosanthera (Kayu Arang), Shorea roxburghii (Meranti temak nipis), Hydnocarpus spp. (Setumpol), Dryobalanops aromatica (Kapur) and Parashorea densiflora (Gerutu Pasir).

“DBKL is steering Kuala Lumpur Towards 70 by 30 because conserving the environment is important to combat climate change, to improve quality of life within the city and by bringing more of nature into the city. We have 17 large city parks that we manage and operate so that there are green lungs and natural recreational pockets throughout Kuala Lumpur. We appreciate the effort by Botaneco Garden to raise awareness on the importance of planting trees to reduce carbon emission, and get more of the public engaged and invested in the type of trees being planted. We invite city dwellers to head to any of our city parks. We hope that you will be delighted by what you see, and be inspired to take small steps to reduce carbon emission in your life, starting with planting a seed to grow a forest,” said Norhaslinda Nordin, Director of Corporate Planning Department, DBKL.

In conjunction with the 62nd Merdeka celebration, Botaneco Garden will be offering 62% off the second product purchase, at all Guardian stores and on the Guardian e-store.

“We’re making it more attractive for consumers to support Botaneco Garden’s Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest environmental initiative with DBKL by offering this very special offer during the Merdeka month. We hope that through this effort we can celebrate Merdeka, while improving the environment and creating more appreciation of nature in Kuala Lumpur,’ said Ms Michelle Yeap in closing.

Let’s Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest together for a greener world!
