Guardian Malaysia CSR | Keeping Kids Clean And Healthy Everyday

Guardian Malaysia announced a new nationwide community service programme, “Together, Keeping Kids Clean and Healthy” aimed at helping children from low income families stay clean and, consequently, healthy. As part of its #guardiancares initiative, the programme which will start on 15 December 2022, will provide children from low income families with hygiene products, in particular, body wash.

Anna Ng, Brand Marketing Director, Southeast Asia, Guardian, said:

“At Guardian, we believe that everyone deserves to feel clean and healthy.  It is a basic human right.  It should not be a luxury or privilege, especially for children.  Children from low income families are especially vulnerable because these families do not have the resources, especially post Covid-19, to be able to buy hygiene products when their priority is to buy food to feed their children.   The rising cost of living further exacerbates these difficulties when you factor in other major expenditures such as transportation, education, rent, and mortgages.

“Yet keeping children clean and healthy remains vital when, for example, we saw cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) this year rise 20-fold compared to last year with children the most affected.  And with our recent experiences with Covid-19, keeping good hygiene especially good hand hygiene remains a very important tool in preventing the spread of infectious diseases such as Covid-19.”

“Apart from that, we also truly believe that when a child is clean and smells nice, it boosts his self-esteem and improves his mental well-being too.” added Ng.

To mark the launch of this campaign in Malaysia today, 200 school children from Primary One classes of Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Sri Damansara 1, received 2 bottles of one litre body wash and 100ml bottles of body wash and a Guardiancares Bear each,  In addition 800 Primary Two to Six children received one bottle of 1Liter body wash.  The school children will also get a #guardiancares eco-bag with hygiene posters detailing the correct way to wash their hands and body during bath time.

The Guardiancares Bear will be on sale at Ringgit Malaysia Thirty only, at all Guardian stores throughout Malaysia and through Guardian’s online store and the Guardian mobile app.  All proceeds from the sale of Guardiancares Bears will go to the #guardiancares fund to support the bath care needs of underprivileged children in Malaysia.

At the launch, Guardian team members also pitched in to help finish a mural inspired by Haris Rashid at the school depicting the importance of keeping healthy and clean.

Ng added:  “Through this programme, we are targeting to provide 20 million baths to underprivileged children not only in Malaysia but in other South East Asian countries, namely, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam.

“This initiative is a region-wide Guardian community service programme covering five  countries with each country working with a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) so that our contributions will reach the intended children. In Malaysia, Guardian will work with Yayasan Perintis Malaysia who will help distribute these bath care products and identify the child recipients on behalf of Guardian.  We will be focussing on children aged of 12 years and below from B40 families who live in low-cost flats and low-cost houses near the schools.

“Additionally, for every one litre of Guardian bath care product sold in Malaysia, 15 sen will be donated to buying bath care products for these underprivileged children. So we hope our customers will support our community service effort by buying Guardian bath care products,” Ng said.

The #guardiancares initiative is a sustainability initiative focused on caring for the health of its customers and the community that Guardian operates in.

“We would like to inspire and empower customers to make healthy and sustainable choices when it comes to choosing the health and beauty brands they trust at Guardian.  At the end of the day, we want our customers to ‘care’ about what they buy.  We believe that beauty begins from the inside.  By choosing to care, together we can make a difference,” Ng concluded.

Global Handwashing Day Together With Lifebuoy !

In line with the goal of Global Handwashing Day (GHD) on 15th October 2022, Lifebuoy, the world’s number one germ protection soap dedicated to promoting healthy hygiene habits, launched a programme “C Untuk Cuci Tangan: Train the Trainers” at The Grounds KL to reinforce good handwashing habits among the school children of Jabatan Kemajuan Masyarakat (KEMAS). The purpose of the “C Untuk Cuci Tangan: Train the Trainers” programme is to not only share the necessary handwashing skills with the teachers of KEMAS but also to enable them to then teach those skills to the students.

Under this programme, Unilever Malaysia through Lifebuoy partnered with Guardian to donate hygiene kits containing essential daily items such as Lifebuoy C Untuk Cuci Tangan Guidebook, Lifebuoy Antibacterial Handwash and Bar Soap, and antibacterial wipes from Guardian to Tabika KEMAS, to promote good hand hygiene and help minimize the risk of infection among school students.

The launch of the programme was officiated by Yang Berusaha Tuan Asri Bin Saleh, Director of KEMAS Wilayah Persekutuan, Ms. Lenny Chuah, Personal Care Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand (MYSGTH) Lead & Head of Malaysia, Unilever Malaysia, and Ms. Jessica Barnabas, Personal Care Head of Department, Guardian Malaysia.

Yang Berusaha Tuan
Asri Bin Saleh, Director of KEMAS Wilayah Persekutuan shared, “The Ministry of Rural Development through KEMAS always emphasizes the aspect of personal hygiene and safety among the students of KEMAS.

KEMAS is proud to collaborate with the private sector such as Lifebuoy on conducting such a handwashing programme for the first time. For instance, teachers who undergo the training offered by Lifebuoy Malaysia will be able to guide school children on the proper ways to wash their hands more efficiently. Indeed, teachers play crucial roles to encourage the good habit of handwashing among children from an early age.

“On top of that, the hygiene kits donated by Lifebuoy and Guardian will help to establish a first-class mindset of emphasizing personal hygiene among preschool students. With the rising of hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD), students will be reminded to utilize the hygiene kits available in school compounds to keep their hands clean from time to time. Ultimately, this is one of the good examples of how the public-private partnership takes place to ensure a healthier and cleaner environment for our future generation.”

Mouse mommy is also noted the importance of hand hygiene and happy to support this handwashing practise into our daily lifestyle.

Lenny Chuah, Personal Care Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand (MYSGTH) Lead & Head of Malaysia, Unilever Malaysia said, “As a company that prioritizes the core aspect of improving health and hygiene to protect lives and livelihoods, Unilever through Lifebuoy Malaysia hopes that the launching of the “C Untuk Cuci Tangan: Train the Trainers” programme will offer valuable insights and perspectives on championing the cause of hand hygiene education among school children.

We are proud to be working with KEMAS and Guardian to increase awareness among preschoolers on the importance of washing hands to keep germs at bay. In line with our purpose to save lives, our programme will empower mothers with such awareness, knowledge, and information to help ensure that their children fall ill a little less often.

“To reaffirm the support for the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals which aims to drive positive behavioral change around hand hygiene habits amongst children, Lifebuoy creates the theme song Mari Lebih Sihat! which is sung in local languages from various ethnic groups in our country to create the most inclusive hygiene education in Malaysia. Currently, the second phase of the Mari Lebih Sihat initiative will continue this goal to drive handwashing behavior change among children.”

To further formulate effective ways in cultivating handwashing habits among school children, Lifebuoy has partnered with schools to promote the fundamentals of hand hygiene from a child’s earliest years with its Little Chief Education Officer (CEO) initiatives. The idea stems from the understanding that children are more likely to instill this behavior when they are influenced by their peers.

Thus, Lifebuoy believes that such an initiative will accelerate the impact of hand-hygiene education by improving students’ attitudes towards learning, fostering a more personalized learning experience, engaging students through cooperative learning, and leading to high retention of information.

Lenny Chuah added, “Lifebuoy believes that explaining and instilling the importance of developing lifelong hand hygiene habits among children is the best approach to preventing the spread of infectious illnesses in schools. Since the commencement of Lifebuoy’s outreach programs in 2015 across Malaysia, we have reached 536,113 kids aged 4 to 9. Driven by a larger purpose, we want to help 1 million people develop good handwashing habits by 2025.

Lifebuoy is committed to continuous innovation in its products to double down on the fight against germs.

More recently, the brand also introduced the new Lifebuoy Fresh Coconut Water & Mint Antibacterial Bodywash and Lemon Fresh Antibacterial Handwash to their existing range.

This will play a significant role to realize the brand’s vision to make hand washing commonplace and help the community stay safe, fresh, and germ-free.

DETTOL’S HYGIENE QUEST | HELP 100,000 SCHOOL CHILDREN ADOPT DAILY HEALTHY HAND WASHING HABITS

Dettol Malaysia proudly launches a public awareness campaign entitled Purpose Programme 2022 with support and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, targeting 100,000 school children between the ages of seven to nine.

Falling under the brand’s, Hidup Sihat, Malaysia Hebat initiative, the school programme will be rolled-out in over 400 primary schools across Malaysia from 17 January 2022 with an aim to educate those from standard one to standard three adopt and retain healthy hygiene habits from a young age.

In today's world, where pollution levels are rising and numerous diseases emerging, it is imperative to begin teaching children proper hand washing techniques at an early age to encourage a lifelong habit. To build better hygiene practices and uplift health standards, Dettol, through this educational awareness initiative, aims to ingrain regular handwashing practices into a child’s daily life, which is one of the best ways to remove germs, and prevent the spread of germs to others.

According to Dr. Steven KW Chow, President of The Federation of Private Medical Practitioners' Associations, Malaysia (FPMPAM) and Chairman for FPMPAM/Dettol Public Education partnership program, “It is very important that inculcating proper hand washing and keeping good hygiene become part and parcel of routine training for all school children.

Early childhood is a formative period during which healthy habits are developed, including good hygiene practices. The Dettol Purpose Programme, which has been constructed to drive behaviour change and create lasting hygiene habits is looking to run a series of educational sessions that targets the cognitive developmental stage of children on increasing their knowledge and promoting hand hygiene practices. Creative activities have been planned for the illustration of hand hygiene concepts in terms of “the right time”, “the right steps”, and “the right duration”.

“Children are powerful agents of change who use their powers of persuasion to take messages back to their parents and wider communities. With the right support and interventions, we can significantly boost child development, helping them to grow, learn and foster daily practices that we hope will translate into permanent habitual change. This is why it is so important that we begin the nurturing and education process in the early stages of life where healthy habits are adopted, and hand hygiene practice becomes second nature,” said Gonzalo Balcazar, Regional General Manager of Reckitt Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.

Under this initiative, Dettol will be introducing Hygiene Quest, a range of curriculum modules that use short, animated episodes, comics, lesson plans and activities centered around the adventures of four hero characters to deliver learning objectives. The comprehensive course has been developed by leading global educational partners with a measurement framework in place for maximum impact.

DDr. Say Shazril has also been engaged as an ambassador to help educate a wider audience on the importance of good hygiene practices and stand as advocate to the children.

“I am thrilled that a programme like this is finally being rolled-out in schools, more importantly, at the primary school level. Learning simple life-long habits like good hand hygiene will benefit these children not just today, but into adulthood and future generations. It is a pleasure to be working with Dettol on this initiative and my hope is that we exceed the 100,000 children target so that more kids are exposed to the importance of keeping their hands clean at all times,” stated Dr. Say.

“At Dettol, our purpose is to protect and nurture in the relentless pursuit of a cleaner, healthier world. Via partnerships with the Ministry of Education such as these, we live our mission to help protect people of all ages, especially children, from germs by highlighting the necessity of healthy habits. As a leader in germ protection, we strongly believe that through this programme, we will be able to help safeguard the health of families in Malaysia for a better and healthier future,” added Balcazar further.
