Shopee X Sasbadi | RM50 Million Benefits For Malaysian Students In Educational Materials

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia & Taiwan, has officially partnered with Sasbadi, Malaysia’s leading publication house and education solutions provider, to empower students in achieving their educational goals. The partnership was launched to make high-quality learning and revision materials more accessible to the Malaysian student community, giving them access to the right tools to succeed in their studies.

Commencing on 1 July 2023, Shopee commits 50 million ringgit to help students purchase educational materials to assist them in achieving academic excellence. This is carried out via 20 ringgit cash equivalent vouchers with no minimum spend that can be redeemed on any educational materials available at Sasbadi’s Official Shopee Store, exclusively for new Shopee customers. Throughout the year, these vouchers will be printed in selected Sasbadi publications and distributed through Shopee and bookstores across the country.

“For those in need of high-quality learning materials, you are not alone – Sasbadi is committed to helping you achieve your full potential. We trust Shopee to make available this much-needed support to students across Malaysia, particularly underserved communities who need it the most, and we will continue to explore all avenues for raising awareness about such efforts,” said Law King Hui, Group Managing Director and Co-Founder of Sasbadi.

“We are humbled to partner with like-minded companies like Sasbadi to support the rising educational needs of rural, underprivileged and underserved students from diverse backgrounds across Malaysia. This is part of our commitment to support local communities using technology. I strongly believe in the importance of education and together with my team, I am glad to be able to pay forward the support I received during my student days. We hope that Shopee's support will enable these students to achieve their dreams,” said Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing at Shopee Malaysia.

Shopee took a similar step in May 2022 when it collectively raised nearly 300 thousand ringgit for *#ShopeeGivesBack partners like UNICEF Malaysia in meeting critical needs of marginalised children and their families in Covid-19.

During the year-long campaign, Shopee’s platform will serve easy-access offerings tailored to students’ needs based on data-driven insights. Specifically, students’ searches for educational needs, such as practical notebooks or school supplies, educational textbooks, educational aid devices, and extra-curricular supplies. Concurrently, Sasbadi’s publications, available on Shopee and in bookshops nationwide, will incorporate the 20-ringgit vouchers, allowing students to conveniently redeem them for educational materials at Sasbadi’s Official Shopee Store on the platform.

Big Bad Wolf Books Pledge To Contribute Books To 2,000 Deserving Communities Nationwide Together With All Malaysians

The recent floods which severely impacted certain parts of the country, affected many lives, resulting in a loss of livelihood to many. Big Bad Wolf Books’ warehouse, located in Taman Alam Indah, Shah Alam was also not spared from the devastation,  that resulted from the floods.

The 200,000 square foot warehouse which stores more than 20 million books suffered an estimated loss of between RM40 to RM50 million in damages. Despite the damages of millions of books, Big Bad Wolf Books  today announced that it aims to give back to the community, especially to those affected by the floods, through its long-term community outreach programme. Big Bad Wolf Books has made an implicit commitment to donate books to 2,000 deserving communities, ranging from kindergartens to school libraries; underprivileged families and orphanages; to neighbourhood community centres and low-cost flats and importantly, to anyone who requires books to build a library, nationwide.

Big Bad Wolf Books aims to embark on this journey to not only recover and rebuild its business but to also help communities recover and rise again. This community outreach programme’s aims to achieve its goal with the cooperation and assistance of like-minded individuals and partnering with various organisations that are keen to make a difference in people’s lives while empowering them. In keeping with its mission, Big Bad Wolf Books is inviting members of the public, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), Charity homes, as well as business, education and corporate, sectors to participate as collaborative partners by either purchasing books to set up an entire library or by taking the initiative to buy books that will go towards a collective pool.

In a conscious effort to ‘kick start’ this initiative, Big Bad Wolf Books, earlier this week contributed hundreds of books to families who were affected by the recent floods at Kampung Bukit Lanchong and Tabika Perpaduan Taman Alam Indah kindergarten’s library.

As a special gesture, each kid at the kindergarten were also given a puzzle set to take home. Several hundred books were also presented to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK), Taman Sri Muda which  was severely hit by the floods. In addition, books were also donated to students living in Taman Subang Mewah, as part of Subang MP, YB Michelle Ng’ back-to-school programme.

Andrew Yap, Founder of Big Bad Wolf Books, said, “It was clearly a very traumatic incident and experience for us. We sincerely hope that Malaysians will support us achieve our 1 Million books target and come together as one to help deserving communities throughout the country have access to books.”

“Our mission has always been to empower and inspire Malaysians by making books accessible to all. We have focused on creating a new generation of readers and increasing English literacy, helping to improve their life chances. Each and every contribution will go towards this worthy cause. No donation is too small or too big.

Therefore, we invite everyone to join us in donating to the community at large. If a company or an individual were to pledge RM3,500, it will help tremendously, in contributing a few hundred books to fill up a library and help people in immeasurable ways. Rest assured, we will do our best to accommodate appeals to rebuild and serve the community for a better tomorrow,” he added.

To participate in Big Bad Wolf Books’ nationwide community outreach programme,  Big Bad Online Book Sale till 06th Feb 2022.

GuruPanda | SJKC Syllabus e-Learning Platform For Students

GuruPanda e-Learning platform caters for students. Online learning platform GuruPanda Sdn Bhd concluded its first round of crowdfunding with pitchIN on 15 November 2021, successfully attracting investments totalling RM500,000.

The monies are slated to fund the company’s expansion plans which will see a brand-new app, new user interfaces and attractive features to encourage more participation from its existing subscribers as well as attracting a wider base.

“We also eventually hope to incorporate AI and Big Data onto our platform. This is the future of e-Learning, and we want to ensure that we remain competitive and attractive as the industry grows, and offer our subscribers the latest learning applications,” says founder Kingsley Ting.

Launched in January 2021, GuruPanda is an e-Learning platform for children aged between 4 and 15 years old, with the various offerings in its stable based on the Malaysian education syllabus.

The platform’s learning programmes are presently divided into two - English and Bahasa Malaysia content for children between the ages of 4 - 7, and Mandarin content for the 10 - 15-year-old group, based on the SJKC syllabus for Science, Math, History and Mandarin Language. Programmes for the 8 - 9-year group will eventually be included. GuruPanda also provides music courses on their platform for young children.

“Our first initiative moving forward will be a new app that will enable subscribers to access the learning programmes on the go. This will be available for all three operating systems namely IOS, Android and Harmony,” says Ting.

With the launch of this app, projected for the first quarter of next year, GuruPanda is looking to triple is subscriber base, especially tapping into the Malay market to widen students’ access to affordable and quality e-Learning options. At subscriptions of between RM130 to RM220 annually, GuruPanda is the most affordable animated, cartoon-based learning platform in Malaysia.

“Our programmes are very digitally interactive and offer complete and high-quality content that suit each child’s learning level,” Ting adds.

True to its objective to make education fun, engaging, accessible and affordable for everyone, the planned new interfaces will increase the gamification and animation elements of the programmes.

“Currently, students take tests and quizzes and play games in the learning process, collecting badges as rewards. The new interface will be more interactive and we plan for students to be able to exchange these badges for physical prizes such as laptops and mobile phones as well as in-programme avatars and cartoon characters.”

GuruPanda is presently only available in Malaysia, with a subscriber base of some 6,000 users.  The company is poised to break into the regional market with a Mandarin language programme, taught in Thai, next year. Expansion plans into Indonesia and Vietnam are also in the pipeline.

“Our goal is to develop GuruPanda into a household name, both in Malaysia and SEA nations, that is synonymous with Fun, Accessible and Effective Learning,” Ting says.

Towards this end, the company is anticipating investments in its next crowdfunding initiative, seeking partners and investors who share the same mind-set of expanding e-Learning facilities.

Cerahi Kehidupan Bersama TOP CSR | Back-To-School Essentials For The 2022 School Year Students

The daily struggle of single mother-led families in Malaysia has worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.  More than 150,000 single mothers have registered for aid with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.

A survey found that single mothers are the hardest hit group during the pandemic as they are the main breadwinner and the sole caregiver for their families. For financially stretched single mothers, the back-to-school season can be highly stressful as they need to provide for their children’s future on a tight budget.

Understanding the need of single mothers, the Cerahi Kehidupan Bersama TOP (Brighter Future with TOP) charity fund-raising campaign returns bigger and better in collaboration with Jabatan Kebajikan Malaysian (JKM), AEON and Shopee, with the goal of equipping students from single-mother led families with back-to-school essentials for the 2022 school year.

JKM shortlisted current aid recipients including single mother-led families as well as those who are care-givers for bed-ridden or differently-abled family members. Priority was given to families with children starting Primary One in 2022. Meanwhile, TOP identified families who had experienced reduced or lost income during the pandemic through media reports. Priority is given to families with children who will start Year One in 2022. TOP has contacted these single mothers to obtain details on the sizing and other requirement for the 333 children involved. TOP reached out to these mothers individually for sizing details and to personalise the back-to-school essentials for 333 children.

A portion of sales from selected TOP detergent products across AEON stores and Shopee platform (via the official Southern Lion store : https://shp.ee/p4hbmk9 ) will be channelled to equipping these 333 primary school students.

The back-to-school essentials include brand new school uniform, school shoes, socks, stationery set, pencil case, and colour pencils for each child. Each family will receive a 2.3kg pack of TOP powder detergent, while the children will receive a soft toy, and an exclusive illustrated book by multi-award winning children’s picture book author and illustrator Emila Yusof, who has created more than 40 books for children such as the Dina series that includes My Mother's Garden, My Mother's Kitchen, My Father's Farm and the latest, Dina's Art Class.

TOP will deliver the personalised back-to-school packs to JKM offices in 12 states for distribution to the single mother-led families in 2022, ahead of the new school term.

Since its inception in 2015, the Cerahi Kehidupan Bersama TOP campaign has benefited 2,880 children from 85 communities nationwide with back-to-school essentials, while contributing TOP detergent products to their families and caregivers.

Just in time for the back-to-school campaign, the brand has introduced TOP Gentle Care Advanced Micro-Clean Tech liquid detergent that can remove 99.9% of viruses (COVID-19 and Influenza A) and bacteria3

TOP Gentle Care is formulated with Caring Touch Tech for an overall skin-nurturing experience. Powered by plant-based active ingredients which are free from the five most common allergens that trigger skin sensitivity, it is suitable for the wellbeing of the entire family’s skin.  The skin-loving pH formula is dermatologically tested, with a lasting citrusy fresh and clean fragrance. This gentle, skin-friendly detergent uses 3X Stain Busting Tech to effectively remove even the toughest stains by penetrating deeply through fabric layers, pulling out stains and keeping dirt from redepositing onto laundry. TOP Gentle Care uses Fibre Care Tech to protect clothes by conditioning fabric at the fibre level to help clothes retain the look and feel of newness for longer.

During the pandemic, TOP has become a comforting presence for many, helping to ease the burden of Orang Asli students and their families, single mothers, frontliners, vaccinators and the homeless through product contributions totalling approximately  RM600,000. The brand has also raised spirit with the rousing tribute song ‘Bebas Melangkah’.

“While the pandemic has been difficult for all of us, Malaysians are proving resilient and bouncing back by lifting up and supporting those who are most in need. TOP is proud to play our part as Keluarga Malaysia being here for you in good times, and tough times. The Cerahi Kehidupan Bersama TOP campaign is more needful than ever as it reduces the burden on single mother-led families, and encourages children to readjust to in-person school again. We understand that some children will face anxiety to return to school after spending a long time at home which is why we are including a soft toy and a beautifully illustrated limited edition book by famed artist, author and children’s book illustrator Emila Yusof to help educate them on the correct technique of handwashing in preparing them to get back to school,” says Ms Ling Ai Li, Marketing Manager of Fabric Care Division at Southern Lion Sdn Bhd.

Commenting on the cooperation, JKM commended and lauded the noble efforts of TOP in organizing the Brighter Future with  TOP initiative which can benefit those affected during the Covid 19 pandemic.

For Emila Yusof the collaboration with TOP allows her to provide gentle guidance on health and hygiene to children who are still coping with life changes due to the pandemic through the story of Kiki that follows a young girl in a typical pandemic day with her mother’s frequent reminders to wash hands, and to wash clothes. “Children remember the stories their mothers tell them at bedtime well into adulthood, and the illustrations act as a visual reminder on what they should do. I’m delighted that this collaboration with TOP can bring comfort and more closeness between single mothers and their children,” says Emila.

The limited edition book ‘Kiki Menentang Dunia Kuman’ by Emila Yusof will be gifted to all the Cerahi Kehidupan Bersama TOP recipients. The public can redeem this beautifully illustrated book by purchasing RM45 and above of TOP detergent or Kirei-Kirei hand wash products in a single receipt from AEON or Shopee via Southern Lion Official Store : https://shp.ee/p4hbmk9 , Whatsapp 018-6688025 with their details and proof of purchase before answering one simple question. For more information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/TOPdetergentMY

“This is the first year that we are working with Shopee for the campaign as we notice that consumers are increasingly purchasing our products on this platform. We hope that it will result in a higher collection and the opportunity to help even more children than the 333 that we have committed to aiding. Help us help more single mothers and their school going children so they can enjoy a brighter future,” adds Ms Ling in closing.
