SCAS&FT | 28th ANNUAL CHARITY WALK-JOG-WHEEL A-THON 2023

The 28th edition of Annual Charity Walk-Jog-Wheel A-Thon is back in year 2023 with a much larger number of participants from the public, private sectors and disabled community.

The event involves participation of about 30 NGOs related to the disabled community. It is primarily aimed at raising funds for SCAS&FT and participating NGOs to raise awareness and support from the public for Persons With Disabilities (PWD).

Organised by Spastic Children's Association of Selangor and Federal Territory (SCAS&FT), the event was officially launched on 15 Aug 2023 by Minister of Women, Family and Community Dato' Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri at Dewan Teong Kim Chai at Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, SCAS&FT Learning and Rehabilitation Centre.

Also present were member of Dewan Negara Senator Isaiah D Jacob and SCAS&FT president Dato' Hong Yee Keong.

SCAS&FT, under the Royal Patronage of His Highness Sultan of Selangor, has been organising this event together with other NGOs, since 1994. The event was first held on 30th July 1994 in Dataran Merdeka.

Mouse mommy and MR also join the 2km Fun Walk in the 28th Annual Charity Walk-Jog-Wheel-A-Thon 2023 together with the community.

The event is divided into two categories - the 2km Fun Walk with Disabled and the 7km (Open)

This year we managed to register total of 2,500 participants for the event with estimated of 300 are Persons with Disabilities (PWD) from various NGOs.

During the launch, Dato' Sri Hajah Nancy lauded the initiatives by SCAS&FT to raise more awareness on the plight of PWD and this event given public the opportunity to walk hand in hand with PWD, supporting and empowering public to instil the values of passion and patience.

"This is a great platform for participants and PWD to walk, run and wheel together on the same platform, allowing them to better understand the PWDs community and our continuous efforts in promoting inclusivity and equality," she said.

The fact that the disabled will be participating together with others is a great form of empowerment for the disabled such as the blind, wheelchair-bound, cerebral palsy children, and autistic. It helps them integrate with society and instil public the value of passion with patience.

Event Organising Chairman, Datuk' Jerry Ching thanked the public, sponsors, companies and donors who gracefully came forward to support and help to raise funds not only for SCAS&FT but for the other participating NGOs.

He added this year, the 30 NGOs has raised total of RM125K for their own organisations. The total funds raised is RM350K.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to make a special mention and appreciation on behalf of SCAS&FT, to the Youth and Sport Ministry (Kementerian Belia dan Sukan) for their Sports Matching Grant (SMG) initiative which helps reimburse up to 50% of the event cost and also assisting us to send our elite paralympic athletes who have taken their time off from their training schedule to participate and liven up our event" he said.
