World Animal Day Celebration At Sunway Lagoon, Malaysia!

Mouse mommy and family were celebrating The World Animal Day at Sunway Lagoon, Malaysia

The World Animal Day is an international day celebrated every 4th of October with a mission to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe. This annual celebration which dates back to 1925 unites the international animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.

To coincide with the special day, Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park – an interactive and educational zoo featuring more than 140 species-specific exhibits of exotic animals and a diverse range of birds, fish, reptiles and mammals from around the world – held a special campaign to urge you to do your part to create a more sustainable world.

Many species of wildlife can be found here. Family and kids will get to know more about animals by seeing real life animal here and information board sharing more about the animals.

In recent years, the Wildlife Park at Sunway Lagoon has stepped up efforts towards being more sustainable.

Among these, Sunway Lagoon announced its support towards two of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations.

The SDG programme contains a total of 17 goals which the United Nations aims to achieve by the year 2030. It is a universal call to action, in a bid to end poverty, protect the planet and to ensure that all people can enjoy the diverse richness which Mother Nature exudes.

Out of the 17 goals, Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park has, without equivocation, committed towards supporting two of these goals. These include Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal #12), aimed at ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns and Life on Land (Goal #15), which aims to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

“For World Animal Day this year, we wanted to create an experience where people of all ages can enjoy the Wildlife Park, while learning more about how they can play a role in protecting our environment. All this ties in with our commitment to be more responsible and sustainable, yet presenting a unique and exciting opportunity for the public to enjoy, especially the younger ones, because they are the future of our planet, and will take on the baton towards environmental conservation,” said Sean Choo, General Manager of Sunway Lagoon.

Be an Earth warrior and make a difference for a more sustainable world. Mouse mommy and kids MR MH are in the Sun Bear team and learn about the food, habitat and enrichment activities that related to Sun Bear routine life!

Do you know Sun Bear also called Honey Bear? Because Sun Bear is a honey-lover! Ehhhmmm…. Mouse mommy and kids MR MH love honey drink too! High-five with Honey Bear!

Enrichment program for animal is basically create scenario that Sun Bear need to find ways to eat the given food. Some activities for the animals to explore by themselves. Animal enrichment is very important to zoo animals.

Animal enrichments is meant to improve the animal’s environments and care based on their natural behaviours and instincts

Environmental enrichments can help lower an animal’s aggression and abnormal behaviour.

The World Animal Day celebrations at Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park also took on an exciting yet heartwarming turn this year, when the park announced its latest project of adopting a few river terrapins from Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia as a support towards the conservation works for these freshwater turtle in the country.

“The aim of the society is to bring about the recovery of depleted wild populations of turtles, with particular reference to freshwater turtles. With the same goal in mind, we are extremely honoured to have the opportunity to work with Sunway Lagoon on this project,” said Dr Chen Pelf Nyok, co-founder of Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia.

Paradoxically, Sunway Lagoon will also be constructing a pygmy goat enclosure at Pet Village that is made out of Ecobricks. The theme park targets to produce approximately 1000 Ecobricks, made using mineral water bottles collected from the recycle bins in the park. Each Ecobrick contains about 200g of non-recyclable plastic waste. With that amount of Ecobricks, the project aims to save approximately 200kg of non-recyclable plastics trash from the landfill. The theme park aims to construct and launch the enclosure by World Earth Day next year.

Guests were specially invited to Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Parks World Animal Day event to enjoy a host of activities and initiatives specially curated to mark this meaningful celebration.

These included an Ecobrick making workshop, a take home garden workshop, meet & greet with Bani the Wildlife Park ambassador, a display by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN), and Save the Earth Pledge wall, where visitors can mark their pledge towards reducing single-use plastics.

After that, MR and MH are happily joining the water splashing fun at Nickelodeon water park at Sunway Lagoon to have fun!

A superb fun and insightful animal day that we had! Mouse mommy and family love this family edutainment theme park - Sunway Lagoon! Looking forward to more family-friendly activities!

TENA Empower Geriatric Lifestyle Care Among Malaysians | Care | Challenge | Improvement

Take care of geriatric is a need and responsible for all. TENA, The Understanding Specialist and Continence Foundation of Malaysia recently launched the ‘Sentiasa Denganmu Mak Abah di Mana Jua: Idea Mudah Untuk Rumah, Ibu Bapa Kita Lebih Selesa’ Campaign to empower adult children to be more aware of the little things they can do and how they can play an active role in understanding the many challenges their parents face, including the onset of incontinence which occurs in 1 out of 2 older persons .

As incontinence can affect one’s parents’ mobility and quality of life, the campaign offers practical suggestions from experts on proper care, management and simple improvements in their homes to help elderly parents feel more comfortable while reducing the risk of falls.

Incontinence affects 1.4 million Malaysians and is estimated to increase by 4.5% annually.1 Despite this, studies have shown that 69% do not seek help  largely due to embarrassment and social stigma.

“At TENA, we firmly believe that an active life with incontinence is still possible, hence the need to raise greater awareness so that the condition can be managed effectively with the RIGHT solutions and support, especially from family members,” said Debby Ho, Marketing Manager, Vinda Malaysia. “The last thing our parents want to do is to trouble us, and it is even tougher for them to bring up a sensitive topic such as incontinence. This is why TENA recognizes the great need to empower children with simple steps and small gestures that can help our parents feel as comfortable as possible, especially at home, without making them feel small,” she explained.

In line with this, TENA works with experts to provide holistic solutions including simple home improvement ideas as well as product solutions, such as TENA Pants, an absorbent underwear which enables them retain their dignity and freedom to enjoy their golden years without fear or embarrassment.

“Incontinence is very common, affecting approximately 50% of older persons. This impacts their lives in many ways, from remaining homebound out of embarrassment or visiting the toilet frequently throughout the day. As they are staying at home for most of the day, it is of utmost importance to prevent our elderly parents from a fall as it could lead to many other complications such as difficulty recovering, as well as other complications if they are hospitalized,” explained Dr Peter Ng, consultant urologist and president of Continence Foundation of Malaysia.

In addition to using TENA Pants, simple home improvements can make a big difference since elderly parents spend the most time at home. In support of the ‘Sentiasa Denganmu Mak Abah di Mana Jua: Idea Mudah Untuk Rumah, Ibu Bapa Kita Lebih Selesa’ Campaign, renowned Malaysian designer Dr Eric Leong shares home improvement ideas in phases on the TENA Facebook page (www.faceboook.com/TENA.Malaysia) and TENA website (www.tena.com.my).

“One of the best things we can do for our parents is help them maintain their independence, and home ideas in the bedroom, bathroom and living room can make it much easier for them to move around safely,” said Dr Leong. “These can be complemented with the right colours and refreshing scents to make their homes more relaxing.”

In addition to recommendations from experts, the campaign also provides other educational support through the TENA website, where the Caring 101 e-Handbook can be downloaded and product samples can be requested.
