Ms Wong Vai Chi, Head of Marketing and Promotions, Guardian Malaysia, speaking at the launch, said: “We are extremely proud and excited to tell you that this year’s Most Voted Brands will feature 313 products from the extensive brand offerings found in our stores!”

Millions of Guardian Malaysia customers, will get this opportunity to vote, once again, for their favourite health and beauty brands, and stand to win prizes worth up to RM40,000.

“In fact, 313 products and 139 brands will be vying for 73 category awards this year, which will make this year’s awards as hard won as ever. And because the votes are from our customers, those who actually buy and use these products, it gives brand owners an unbiased evaluation of where their brand stands.

“The votes taken as a whole, will give an unbiased snapshot of brands that have reached and impacted our customers the most,” she added.

Giving the background to the Awards, Ms Wong said: “When Guardian Malaysia conceptualised the award in the year 2000, our objective was to connect our millions of shoppers to all our business partners and brand owners, by having them vote their favourite brand. Today, this award is even more relevant as we are driven to connect with and understand our customer lifestyle needs, preferences and behaviour that is constantly changing and evolving.”

“I believe Guardian Malaysia’s Most Voted Brands are among the most definitive and prestigious in the market, taking into consideration the depth and breadth of the products, brands and categories involved,” she added.

Reflecting the digital lifestyle of a majority of today’s consumers, the voting process will continue to be conducted entirely in digital format. This means, all voting will be done online.

However, as an added bonus for this year, Guardian customers can also enter the MVB Hunt in all Guardian stores using their mobile phones. The Guardian MVB Hunt is a treasure hunt conducted in all Guardian stores and customers can win product vouchers for more savings.

Go Green Effort ‘Plant A Tree, Grow A Forest’ Together By Botaneco Garden And Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur At Bukit Jalil

Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest! Let’s join Botaneco Garden as the nature-inspired personal care brand raises funds to plant Malaysian rainforest trees at selected locations within the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) managed Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil.

Throughout August 2019, one percent of all Botaneco Garden Product Sales from Guardian stores nationwide will be channelled to planting Malaysian rainforest trees with wide canopies to provide shade close to the main lake at Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil.

This is the third consecutive ‘Plant A Tree, Grow A Forest’ annual environmental  initiative by Botaneco Garden, a nature-inspired personal care line is made from an innovative and sophisticated blend of botanical ingredients and eco-certified oils with a free from specific harmful chemicals that is safer for users and for the environment. The brand includes various hair and body care lines for adults as well as a line for babies and toddlers. It is available, nationwide, exclusively at Guardian, and at the Guardian e-store. There are more than 400 Guardian outlets nationwide.

The brand has partnered with DBKL, to support the council’s Towards 70 by 30 drive, which is in line with the Kuala Lumpur Low Carbon Society Blueprint 2030 which targets to reduce the city’s emission intensity by 70% by 2030

Increasing the number of trees planted is a step towards reducing emission intensity. Trees use the energy of sunlight, and through the process of photosynthesis they take carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and water from the ground. In the process of converting it into wood they release oxygen into the air. In addition to the CO2 that trees capture, they also help soil capture significant amounts of carbon .

City parks helps to make nature more accessible to the public, and can help in promoting healthier and more active lifestyles. The Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil is an ideal location for the Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest initiative as it is a popular recreational city park famed for its walking and jogging trails, lakes, themed international gardens including a dedicated area for people with disabilities, playgrounds and reflexology paths.

On weekends and during ‘wedding season’ it is thronged for bridal and nature photography. Families and animal lovers gather at the lakeside area to feed the fish and tortoises, while enjoying the scenery.

Mouse mommy and family love to have morning walk or run there during weekend too!

Funds collected via the Botaneco Garden Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest initiative will be channelled to plant selected Malaysian rainforest trees at the lakeside area to provide shade at the seating area to encourage people to stay longer to take in more of nature, while helping reduce carbon emission.

“Botaneco Garden is a nature-inspired personal care range and we are so pleased to be able to inspire people through nature via the Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest environmental initiative. Partnering with DBKL to plant rainforest trees at Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil will help us get our message of loving and respecting nature to more people. We hope that our customers will support this initiative, and visit Taman Antarabangsa Bukit Jalil to see what they have contributed to,” said Ms Michelle Yeap, Marketing Manager, Health & Beauty, South East Asia Guardian Health & Beauty Sdn Bhd.

Botaneco Garden and DBKL are upping the engagement levels with the public for this campaign by crowdsourcing ideas on the Malaysian rainforest trees that will be planted at the site through the ‘Pick A Tree’ interaction on the Guardian Malaysia Facebook page, and the Botaneco Garden Instagram of mybotanecogarden

The five shortlisted trees are Diospyros pilosanthera (Kayu Arang), Shorea roxburghii (Meranti temak nipis), Hydnocarpus spp. (Setumpol), Dryobalanops aromatica (Kapur) and Parashorea densiflora (Gerutu Pasir).

“DBKL is steering Kuala Lumpur Towards 70 by 30 because conserving the environment is important to combat climate change, to improve quality of life within the city and by bringing more of nature into the city. We have 17 large city parks that we manage and operate so that there are green lungs and natural recreational pockets throughout Kuala Lumpur. We appreciate the effort by Botaneco Garden to raise awareness on the importance of planting trees to reduce carbon emission, and get more of the public engaged and invested in the type of trees being planted. We invite city dwellers to head to any of our city parks. We hope that you will be delighted by what you see, and be inspired to take small steps to reduce carbon emission in your life, starting with planting a seed to grow a forest,” said Norhaslinda Nordin, Director of Corporate Planning Department, DBKL.

In conjunction with the 62nd Merdeka celebration, Botaneco Garden will be offering 62% off the second product purchase, at all Guardian stores and on the Guardian e-store.

“We’re making it more attractive for consumers to support Botaneco Garden’s Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest environmental initiative with DBKL by offering this very special offer during the Merdeka month. We hope that through this effort we can celebrate Merdeka, while improving the environment and creating more appreciation of nature in Kuala Lumpur,’ said Ms Michelle Yeap in closing.

Are You “The Face of Healthy Beauty” That Guardian Malaysia Looking For ?

Guardian Malaysia which is on a nation-wide quest to find FOUR women, who best fit the bill as ‘The Face of Healthy Beauty’ held its third semi-final round in Shah Alam today for the Central region.

After a hard-fought semi-finals where each of the 25 shortlisted semi-finalists had to go through challenges that display their aptitude and personality to deservedly earn the title ‘The Face of Healthy Beauty’, four finalists emerged to progress to the Grand Finals to be held in Kuala Lumpur on 27 July 2019.

The FOUR finalists from the Central region were:

1.    Alwizah Al Yafii Binti Ahmad Kamal
2.    Karyll Chee Kar-Yee
3.    Nur Aimi Binti Abdul Ghani
4.    Nurul Ezzaty Binti Hasbullah

Lawyer and mother of two teenage boys, Alwizah Al Yafii Binti Ahmad Kamal, 45, from Kuala Lumpur, was very happy and very surprised to be picked as a finalist.

“I really thought I did not stand a chance against such an accomplished group of semi-finalists who were so beautiful, so young, so confident with so much energy, from different walks of life and who mostly held professional jobs.  So this win was really unexpected for me and I still can’t believe it.  I’m so happy,” she said.

Alwizah said she wasn’t a ‘pageant’ person but she was a firm believer on being healthy especially now when women say they don’t have time to keep healthy because of work commitments.

“I want to be an ambassador for health and beauty because this is my passion,” she added.

Alwizah who counts Tun Mahathir as her idol says like Tun she wants to keep on working until she is in her nineties so keeping healthy is very important.  And being the oldest semi-finalist in the Central region she feels she is on her way to achieving that goal.

Alwizah who didn’t have time to prepare for the contest due to her busy work schedule and mundane duties as a mother also said that she applauded Guardian for conducting this search because it shows that the ordinary women such as young working mothers and working women can be healthy and beautiful as well.

“We are not superstars, movie stars or celebrities.  We want to show that we are normal women with normal problems and yet we can strive to be healthy and beautiful at the same time.”

More personal details on these first four finalists can be found on the contest microsite at https://theface.guardian.com.my.

The last semi-finals will be held in Kota Kinabalu Sabah on 7 July.

At the launch of this nation-wide search in May this year,  Soren Lauridsen, CEO, South East Asia, Guardian Health And Beauty Sdn Bhd said:   “This search for The Face of Healthy Beauty is NOT a Beauty contest.

“In our books, the Healthy Beauty, is a person who lives life to the fullest in a healthy way, and has a distinctive style and pleasant personality.  She is someone with a positive attitude, gives priority to being healthy first; and looks after her physical beauty too.”

Each winner will sign a one-year contract as Guardian Brand Ambassador that comes with  RM10,000 cash, RM10,000 Guardian vouchers, and RM5,000 each for them to give to a charity organization of their choice. They will be featured on the Cover of Guardian’s Brand Catalogues and other collaterals and will receive products from participating sponsors.

Soren explains that the Healthy Beauty concept is at the core of Guardian’s brand philosophy and that this concept was borne from a consumer insight that good health is the foundation of true beauty.

“We discovered that our customers believe that true beauty comes from a healthy physical and mental state of being,” Soren said.

By focusing on this consumer need since its very first store at The Weld 52 years ago, Guardian, has become the store to go to for health and beauty needs.

He said: “While these basic needs have remained, consumption trends have evolved driven by changing lifestyles and economic circumstances.  Health and beauty are no longer as clearly defined as they used to be.  They have been intertwined.   Guardian too, has evolved.  From being the health and beauty store, our mission now is to inspire our customers to live a healthy and beautiful life.”

“To achieve our mission, we have trained our team members to be beauty and health care advisors, while continuing to offer the latest and most innovative health and beauty products,” Soren added.

Touted as the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia, this search for ‘The Face of Healthy Beauty’ is open to all Malaysian females aged 18 years and above.  Entries were submitted online at  https://theface.guardian.com.my.

Participants needed to upload a 30 second video of themselves indicating ‘Why they want to be The Face of Healthy Beauty?’ or write in not more than 100 words why they want to be The Face of Healthy Beauty.

One hundred (100) shortlisted participants will be selected to attend each  semi-final to be held at Johor Bahru City Square, Gurney Plaza Penang, Central i-City Mall Shah Alam and 1Borneo Hypermall Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.  Four semi-finalists from each region will attend the Grand Finals in Shah Alam on 27 July 2019.
