EYE HEALTH FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE | ROHTO EYE CARE ‘JOY OF SEEING' CSR CAMPAIGN EMPOWERS UNDERPRIVILEGED STUDENTS

Rohto Eye Care, a leading provider of innovative eye care solutions, is thrilled to announce the resounding success of its annual CSR campaign, "The Joy of Seeing." Building upon the accomplishments of the previous year, this campaign has once again made significant strides in fundraising, raising awareness, and positively transforming the lives of underprivileged B40 students.

In collaboration with esteemed partners Pintar Foundation and Focus Point Vision Care Group Sdn Bhd, Rohto Eye Care expanded its outreach to three public schools in the bustling Klang Valley: Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Batu, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Cheras, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kiaramas. With a profound impact on over 2,400 students, including 30% from economically disadvantaged B40 families, the campaign has truly made a difference.

By joining forces with Focus Point Vision Care Group, renowned experts in the field, Rohto Eye Care went beyond traditional corporate social responsibility. Their dedicated team conducted engaging and informative educational talks on eye health while providing comprehensive eye health checks at the participating schools.

The primary goal was to empower children with knowledge about their eyes, promote healthy eye care practices, and extend support to B40 students who required prescription glasses.

To incite even greater support, Rohto Eye Care partnered with Watsons, a trusted and popular retail chain. Throughout the entire month of May, a portion of the sales from Rohto Eye Care products at Watsons stores nationwide was earmarked for the campaign fund. This collaborative effort not only bolstered the initiative's impact but also showcased the strength of unity in pursuing a common cause.

Lim Mei Yuen, the esteemed General Manager of Rohto-Mentholatum, highlighted the paramount importance of the campaign and its objectives.

Drawing attention to the alarming findings from the previous year, which revealed the detrimental effects of excessive screen time on students' eyesight, particularly in the context of digital learning during the pandemic, Lim expressed her sincere hope that this campaign would empower students to prioritize and safeguard their precious eyes.

"Our aim is to educate students about invaluable eye care tips and exercises, enabling them to take proactive measures in maintaining optimal eye health," stated Lim.

"Furthermore, we are proud to have sponsored 79 pairs of prescription glasses, a tangible effort to improve the vision of underprivileged B40 students and provide them with the tools they need to succeed academically. We understand the struggles faced by some children who are unable to see clearly in class due to limited resources."

To make eye health education truly engaging, Rohto Eye Care incorporated an array of enjoyable activities, including blindfold games and an art contest. These initiatives aimed to reinforce the importance of maintaining healthy eyes and fostered a sense of enjoyment and participation among the students.

Impaired eyesight among children is a growing global concern, particularly in Asia. Addressing this issue requires collective efforts to educate the public about how poor eye conditions can significantly impact a child's eyesight and overall eye health.

Several factors contribute to poor eyesight, including genetics and lifestyle choices such as excessive screen time, reading in low light, and lack of sleep. By raising public consciousness about these influential factors, Rohto Eye Care aims to empower parents and caregivers to adopt measures that mitigate their negative impact on their children's vision.

Early detection of refractive errors is vital for timely intervention and effective treatment. Parents are encouraged to remain vigilant for warning signs such as frequent squinting, persistent headaches, habitual eye rubbing, an inability to focus at appropriate distances, and an avoidance of activities that rely on clear eyesight.

Promoting healthy eye habits is indispensable for preserving optimal eyesight in children. It is crucial to instill the practice of taking regular breaks from screens, ensuring proper lighting for reading and studying, emphasizing outdoor activities to alleviate eye strain, and prioritizing sufficient sleep. Regular eye examinations play an indispensable role in monitoring visual health and proactively managing refractive errors.

In certain cases, children may require prescription glasses to attain and maintain optimal visual acuity. By collaborating with eye care professionals, Rohto Eye Care ensures that each child's individual needs are accurately assessed and met, empowering them to embrace the world with clarity and confidence.

Rohto Eye Care's outstanding achievement in its CSR campaign underscores the brand's unwavering dedication to promoting eye health and overall well-being among children.

Through its sponsorship of prescription glasses and relentless efforts to raise awareness about the significance of eye health, Rohto Eye Care continues to make an enduring positive impact on the community, paving the way for a brighter and more promising future for the younger generation.

SPX Celebrates Record Women Empowerment In E-Commerce Courier

SPX, the delivery provider of SEA group with 118 hubs nationwide, celebrates two years of promoting women and closing the gender divide in a traditionally male dominated courier industry. SPX has been building robust relationships with local communities, as their work enables them to expand local sellers’ reach, create local economies, and fulfil essential orders during rainy seasons.

Since 2021, SPX has outpaced competitors by promoting inclusive initiatives at the workplace, hiring 40 times more women, in all kinds of management roles such as supervisors, hub leads, shift leads, and operational roles such as sorters, couriers, and riders. Today, a record 13% couriers and 40% sorters nationwide are women; SPX is the only e-commerce courier partner in Malaysia helmed by a female director, Cheah Lee Sun.

‘I welcome female couriers all over Malaysia, because I don’t see this industry as a male-dominated industry. No job is too heavy duty for women here whether it involves heavy lifting or driving commercial vehicles. Everyone is welcome, in the spirit of inclusion and supporting upskilling local talents in the communities where we operate,’ says Lee Sun, Head of SPX.

Company-Wide Visible Policy for Transparent Workplace

Lee Sun acknowledges that getting extra logistics capacity during peak ecommerce campaign periods can be very competitive. She makes personal visits to SPX hubs, sorting facilities, and warehouses, and rides along with her drivers, men and women equally, to ensure equal treatment of her employees and instant feedback systems to facilitate better performance. SPX has implemented a company-wide Visible Policy initiative, which means there are active channels for all employees to report any integrity or harassment issues anonymously.

Siti Sakinah Yusof, 33, started as a contract supervisor in the Kuala Terengganu Selatan hub and due to her unwavering integrity and work ethic, she has been promoted to a full-time hire with SPX; as a mother of three children, she is a role model in cultivating a trustworthy, positive workplace environment. ‘Women must know how to take care of themselves and never hesitate to speak up about those with unethical behaviour,’ she said.

Job Flexibility Drives Better Performance

Nadiah Mohd Shukor, 34, looks out for working mothers under her supervision as a trainee in the Acting Area Manager Programme for Hulu Langat, Balakong, Serdang, and Titiwangsa. “I make sure they apply for leave when their child is sick, take lunch breaks and have proper meals while at work even during peak delivery periods,” she said. Being a mother herself to seven children, Nadiah understands that some of the women are doing two jobs and need the flexibility to work on shifts.

Lee Sun endorses this mentality, empowering all women with the flexibility to manage their own delivery schedules while building their own careers. While working as SPX couriers means they can drop their children off at schools while managing to deliver parcels by the end of their shift.

Delivering With More Empathy

As a result of such inclusive hiring policies, there has been an overwhelming culture of inclusion, discipline, and community-building at SPX. ‘There is just an attention to detail in handling parcels and an ability to remember our frequent buyers, that has been infused by women in all our territories. From my ride-alongs, I observe that they are more patient, more polite, and just care a lot more about people,’ mused Lee Sun.

Ruzita Puzi, 45, has worked for 20 years in this industry, and is now in a position to bring more job opportunities to women in Kedah at her Alor Setar Hub: ‘I want women from all walks of life to believe in themselves because they can succeed in anything, whether it's in business or holding leadership roles within companies. Before this, there were no women employees in the hub. We hired two women to work as sorters and hope to hire more women to break the gender barrier.’

Meanwhile, in conjunction with Malaysia Day, SPX couriers nationwide galvanized teamwork to deliver 15,000 free ‘Unveiling Malaysian Gems’ books to regular customers, waving the national flag and taking photos. The books contain guides to women-owned businesses across all states who support women in their communities by hiring and including them in their businesses.

Shopee Seller Summit Ushers in New Era of Value-Based Marketing | Stay Relevant and Drive Economic Inclusion

1,200 Malaysian sellers on Shopee’s platform unanimously resolved to stay relevant with shifting values of younger audiences online by embracing Value-Based Marketing at Shopee’s Seller Summit at Sunway Resort on 21 June 2023. The sixth instalment of Malaysia's most popular annual e-commerce conventions provided a safe space for sellers to incorporate latest online consumer trends and newly launched marketplace features in contributing to the development of local communities across various industries nationwide.

Up-ending the notion that purpose-driven business is solely the purview of large MNC corporations, ten value-based sellers set up pop-up booths to demonstrate how they drive unique values through user experience, authentic storytelling, and seamless engagement. Shopee Xpert and Shopee Bintang sellers played interactive games such as Marketplace Inclusion Treats-In-the-Jar, Building Connected Communities Jenga, and Redefining E-Commerce Pictionary, to break the ice and create memorable value-based learning experiences.

In his keynote speech, Shopee Malaysia’s Director, Cheng Xun Chua unveiled major 2023 platform initiatives focused on enabling Malaysian sellers’ growth. Firstly, Shopee is enhancing capabilities across logistics and payments, and prioritising brand protection to enable better shopping experiences for value-based customers. Secondly, Shopee is maximising customer lifetime value from its large user base by building cross-category synergy and deepening the connection between sellers and their customers, increasing shopper engagement and maximising sellers’ reach.

According to Chua, "In today's e-commerce landscape, customers pay close attention to what a seller stands for and does, by checking out what the influencers and affiliates say about the brand. With Shopee 360 Marketing Solutions, we provide a comprehensive, end-to-end platform marketing solution that includes a range of tools and services to help sellers increase their visibility and sales.”

Khairul Aming, winner of Shopee Super Award 2022 Best New Seller and Best Customer Service awards, led the call to stay relevant during his panel discussion. He was joined by esteemed fellow sellers Roy Sam of PerySmith, Kim Yeo of Ecobb,  Sammy Chong of Celovis Jewelry, and So Bee Leng of Coty Malaysia, who spoke about meeting the needs of value-based consumers to drive long-term loyalty.

He introduced Sambal Nyet on Shopee in 2021 and has made over RM 21.5 million in sales since, selling his millionth bottle last August. By constantly refreshing and customising content for Malaysians’ local preferences, he has over 3.7M followers on Instagram and consistently maintains an average of 5.0 stars ratings on Shopee with over 392.2k followers. Hailing from Kelantan, Khairul's growing business is a model of creating inclusive employment opportunities in his hometown for over 50 staff and 150 household dependents.

Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing at Shopee Malaysia, said, “Every year, thousands of sellers network and learn new things to grow at our Seller Summit. This year, I had the privilege of facilitating first-hand (in my panel forum) very proactive value-based marketing strategies that I’m sure will drive societal and business impacts by industry. Not forgetting, I wanted to thank all the brand sponsors for contributing to the success of Seller Summit 2023: Commerce.Asia, Intrepid, Kumoten, Mono & Co, PayRecon, Red Dino, SiteGiant, and Toyo, among others.“

Exemplifying how Made-in-Malaysia stores on marketplace can drive local economic inclusion while meeting the demands of value-based shoppers through Shopee’s ecosystem were: Ooi Zhi Wei of Zhiwei Herb, Felix Lee and Tee Ying Fui of Beehaus, Karen Tee of RPM (Racing Passion Moto), Eelin Lim of BeNourish, Leon Wong of Samview, Mohd Zaid of Lampu Cherita, Edward Wong of HomeDecoStore, Khairil Adhzaha of Tokey Sambal Hitam, Patricia Marin of Mamami Shoppe, and Hafiz Oon of Mr Bentong.

Last year, Shopee upskilled and integrated over 250,000 new sellers for digital inclusion, and saw 145 new sellers record over RM500,000 in sales in the first 12 months online. In line with Shopee’s ongoing efforts to leverage the transformative power of technology to create a more inclusive digital economy, Shopee’s Seller Summit provides tools to upskill and empower sellers to achieve online success and build a sustainable future for themselves.
