Shop for a Cause, Shop for H.O.P.E.

The Covid-19 outbreak has affected everyone,  including animals, to varying degrees. According to non-profit organisation Homeless &  Orphan Pets Exist (H.O.P.E), there has been a 30% increase in animal abandonment at the  animal shelter during the Movement Control Order. This is possibly due to the growing  financial burden that pet owners are facing.

Understandably, with the current economic climate, donations to the H.O.P.E animal shelter  located in Pekan Nenas, Johor have reduced greatly. Daily, H.O.P.E feeds an average of 1.2  tonnes (1,200 kg) of pet food to over 3,000 dogs and 200 cats that it is currently sheltering.  This works out to more than RM140,000 needed to ensure these furry friends are fed on a  monthly basis; and this is on top of the RM20,000 incurred for medical expenses and  miscellaneous.

With the goal of improving the lives of pets through nutrition, shelter and education, pet care  product brands WHISKAS® and PEDIGREE® are collaborating with H.O.P.E. animal shelter  to raise funds via the “Shop for H.O.P.E.” campaign on Shopee happening from now till 6  December 2020.

Through this campaign, Shopee users and pet lovers can make donations of RM10, RM20 or  even RM50 to the animal shelter. Additionally, for every purchase made through the Whiskas  and Pedigree Official Store on Shopee, 10% will be converted to products which will later be  presented to H.O.P.E.

Mars Petcare Southeast Asia Pet Nutrition D-Commerce Director Phua Fui Ching said,  “Ever so often, we come across a news article or video on social media on animals being  abandoned and it is heart-wrenching. At Mars Petcare, we believe that pets make the world a  better place and therefore, collaborating with H.O.P.E as well as Shopee is one of the many  initiatives to achieve our goal in creating a better world for pets where they are healthy, happy and welcomed.

Through this partnership, we hope to raise at least RM10,000 worth of pet  food to be donated to H.O.P.E to help ease their burden.”

In a bid to garner more proceeds for the animal shelter, WHISKAS® and PEDIGREE® will  also be offering in-store vouchers of RM7 off with a minimum spend of RM70 and RM10 off  with a minimum spend of RM100 to encourage pet lovers to purchase more from the store.

#KitaJagaKita Malaysia Communities in Need | Thank You #AyamWithYou Community Food Pantries Initiative

#KitaJagaKita While times are tough due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysians are pulling together to support communities with kindness and trust, giving old methods such as communal food pantries an innovative spin.

The #AyamWithYou Food Pantry initiative, by Ayam Brand™ and 13 charity homes nationwide is helping charities, empowering them to help surrounding communities that are in need.

For example in the Anjung Singgah homeless shelter in Jalan Lekiu is leading the way for surrounding communities by managing the #AyamWithYou pantry in this area.

“We were concerned for the well-being of some families here especially during Ramadan and for Raya. We don’t have much, but they had less. We have been part of the Ayam Brand™ Community Care campaign in the past. This year Ayam Brand™ again provided our organisation with two months’ supply of their products for our residents, and suggested the food pantry or gerobok rezeki as a solution for the community. They have provided a weatherproof pantry and a separate stock of products that we can bless the community with,” said Anjung Singgah Yayasan Kebajikan Negara, operations officer, Encik Amir Rudin Bin Abdul Rahman.

The weatherproof pantry is set up outside the shelter so that social distancing is observed. It is open to the public round-the-clock. Staff and residents update the community about the food pantry through community groups on social media and messaging apps, and they top up the Ayam Brand™ products daily.

“We sent out messages by WhatsApp and Facebook that the food pantry items are free for those who need, while those who want to contribute can add dry foods, snacks, stationery, cleaning products and other essential items. The residents relish the responsibility of managing the food pantry and keeping it well-stocked. They get to practice kindness and generosity,” Encik Amir Rudin said.

Response to the initiative has been overwhelming with the daily allocation of Ayam Brand™ products such as tuna, baked beans, processed peas, canned pineapples and coconut milk snapped up quickly, and other essentials being added, with strong support from the community.

“Surprises have turned up at the food pantry including fresh vegetables, dates, baby formula, diapers and Raya cookies! We can feel the #KitaJagaKita closeness. The #AyamWithYou food pantry project has made this Raya very special by building stronger bonds of kindness, trust and support in our community, allowing us to contribute actively well-being,” he added.

Through its long-running Corporate Social Responsibility programmes Ayam Brand™ has contributed more than 2 million healthy meals for charity, providing nutritious food to more than 21,800 people from 524 charity organisations and NGOs over the past 12 years.

This year the brand has supported Covid-19 front liners at Hospital Sungai Buloh, 13 charity homes, the #AyamWithYou food pantry initiative, and the Anjung Singgah Kuala Lumpur Homeless Transit centre, with plans to support more organisations and communities.

“Covid-19 drastically changed our plans for the 13th annual Ayam Brand™ Community Care Campaign, but we see the positive impact of the #AyamWithYou Food Pantry initiative. It changes the narrative for our charity home partners, from being recipients to being contributors and donors in their respective communities. The community here has embraced the food pantry concept of ‘take what you need, leave what you can’ creating a virtuous cycle that is sustaining the initiative” said Ayam Brand Malaysia’s Marketing Manager, Nathan Deverre.

Ayam Brand™ staff have helped spread the word on the food pantry so that more can benefit or contribute, and started the ball rolling by being among the first to contribute non-food items to the pantry.

“Starting with our families and friends we sent out a list of necessities for the pantry. Those who could dropped off essential items at the pantry. The community are so willing and eager to help. They have shared the location of the pantry with those in need as well. All of us can help within our means,” said an Ayam Brand™ team member who lives in the area.

Jacob’s Original Cream Crackers Rallies Malaysians To Get High Pole Lion Dance Recognised As A UNESCO Heritage This Chinese New Year 2020 !

In celebration of original Malaysian traditions, this Lunar New Year, The Original Cream Crackers (Jacob’s), a biscuit brand under Mondelēz International (Malaysia) is shining the spotlight on the High Pole Lion Dance, a Muar-born tradition.

In a bid to get this original Malaysian tradition recognised by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, Jacob’s is rallying Malaysians to sign a petition (http://bit.ly/36zyDDI).

Pioneered by the Kun Seng Keng (KSK) Lion and Dragon Dance Association, the High Pole Lion Dance was founded in Muar, Johor more than 20 years ago. Since then, this unique performance which symbolizes good luck and fortune has spread across the globe. To date, troupes from Malaysia have won over 100 World Lion Dance Championships while setting international benchmarks.

“In 2017, KSK initiated a bid to get it listed as a UNESCO heritage. Despite the effort and support they received, this variation of the Lion Dance has yet to attain the recognition it deserves. Jacob’s is moved by the story and we have decided to join forces with KSK to revive the attempt to enlist High Pole Lion Dance as a UNESCO heritage. Having this local invention recognised by UNESCO ensures that we can preserve this unique tradition and pass it on to future generations. With that, we are now inviting each and every Malaysian to join us in making our High Pole Lion Dance known to the world,” said Eugenia Goh, Brand Manager, Biscuits (Fuel), at Mondelēz International (Malaysia).

In addition to providing consumers with the right snack, for the right moment, made the right way, Mondelēz International through its biscuit brands has been showing its support for various initiatives. Last August, Jacob’s embarked on ‘The Originals’ campaign which saw the kick-off for its Original Malaysians initiative that highlighted inspiring Malaysian personalities who are legends in their own fields. Today, its celebration of Original Malaysian Traditions is significant in getting the High Pole Lion Dance internationally recognised.

To date, three original Malaysian traditions namely Mak Yong theatre, Silat and Dondang Sayang have been recognised by UNESCO as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’. The recognition received are deemed meaningful as it safeguards Malaysia’s heritage while promoting its national identity.

Tang Puay Sen, KSK Troupe Leader & Coach said “The Muar-born High Pole Lion Dance was founded in 1988. We started off as a small lion dance troupe and in 1992, we awed audiences around the globe when we incorporated high poles into the dance, poles that increased in height over time. It is also humbling to know that the standards for international competitions these days were pioneered by our Malaysian troupes. To make our UNESCO dream a reality, we need Malaysians to join hands in hopes of obtaining as many signatures as possible for this petition. Having the support of the mass will certainly strengthen and support our application to UNESCO. It is time this awe-inspiring Malaysian tradition gets the international recognition it deserves.”

With the precise incorporation of music, choreography, and ancient wisdom among others, this exceptionally elegant and highly skilled craft often comprises of a multi-cultural dance troupe, a true reflection of what makes us proud to be Malaysians.

Among the first few Malaysians who have signed this petition are employees of Mondelēz International (Malaysia) and its partners.

In conjunction with this initiative, Jacob’s has produced two limited edition festive tins featuring the ‘High Pole Lion Dance’ and, the '24-Festive Drums’. Each tin retails at RM14.40.

Mouse mommy also support and signed this petition! Lets’ make our UNESCO dream happen and become reality – High Pole Lion Dance! ( http://bit.ly/36zyDDI )
