HARMONI RAYA AT INTERMARK MALL KUALA LUMPUR

Intermark Mall invites shoppers to its ‘Harmoni Raya’ celebrations happening till 21 April 2024.

The celebration emphasises everything that makes Hari Raya special — food, music, home, and film — while also deepening the mall’s commitment to its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.

With a growing awareness of the environmental impact of festive celebrations, Intermark Mall aims to balance tradition and environmental consciousness through an eco-friendly, Raya-themed fashion showcase by homegrown design collective KL6.

The group aims to minimise the impact of the fashion industry on the environment through the ‘RRU Method’ – reuse, recycle, upcycle – creating stylish and high-quality products while focusing on reducing waste, using eco-friendly materials, and practising fair labour.

Embracing the festive spirit, shoppers can browse the Bazaar Ramadan at the Ground Atrium to shop for scarves, accessories, home decorations, and more, from various brands including Bacarat and Raya Market by FA’WER! As part of its ESG efforts, Intermark Mall is also partnering with Dôme Cafe for its ‘Go Green’ campaign, where children can participate in Earth Hour activities on 23 March 2024.

Additionally, shoppers can participate in educational workshops and watch captivating performances to celebrate the festive season. Try upcycling activities with the KL6 designers, like repurposing old fabric into new fashion items, and catch the lineup of silat, cultural dance, and gamelan performances available throughout the campaign.

Shoppers who spend RM150 in a single receipt can receive exclusive Raya packets, and those who spend RM350 in a single receipt can receive a special Intermark Mall jute bag. The top three highest spenders will also receive a STAUB Pepper Cocotte (red/yellow) worth RM299 each!

SUNPLAY | ‘WE CARE FOR THE OCEAN 2023’ CAMPAIGN SUCCESSFULLY CLEANS 1,490 KG OF TRASH FROM MALAYSIAN BEACHES

Sunplay, Malaysia's trusted sunscreen brand, announced its success in concluding its third annual CSR initiative, ‘We Care for the Ocean 2023’. In partnership with Watsons, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), and climate action advocate Melissa Tan, a significant impact has been made on beach pollution across seven locations in Malaysia.

"Partnering with Watsons, the MNS, and Melissa Tan has truly amplified our efforts and made this campaign an extraordinary success, and we were able to fundraise RM40,000 throughout the month of November,” said Lim Mei Yuen, General Manager of Rohto-Mentholatum (M) Sdn Bhd.

Lim further expressed, “We are thrilled about the high volume of trash we managed to remove from our beaches”.

This year's campaign mobilised a remarkable 256 volunteers, who collectively cleaned up an impressive total of 1,490kg of trash across seven beaches in Malaysia, exceeding last year's total of 1,348kg.

The efforts were spread out over a variety of locations, including Pantai Sekendi in Sabak, Selangor, where 165.9kg were collected; Pantai Sungai Kajang in Tanjong Karang, Selangor, with 720.9kg; Pantai Redang in Sekinchan, Selangor, contributing 80.3kg; Pantai Batu Laut in Tanjung Sepat, Selangor, clearing 23kg; Pantai Cunang in Tanjung Sepat, Selangor, accumulating 116kg; Pantai Blue Lagoon in Negeri Sembilan, adding 284.3kg; and Pantai Morib in Selangor, rounding it off with 99.2kg.

"We strongly feel that the core focus of this campaign resonates with our organisation's mission, as it emphasises conservation and appreciation of nature. To further add, we were delighted to join hands with the team when we first learned about this initiative, as it offers us a chance to contribute to environmental preservation", states MNS Executive Director, Mr. I.S. Shanmugaraj.

"I believe we need to not only raise awareness about ocean pollution but to galvanise Malaysians to take action. We need to stop plastic pollution at the source. What we choose to use or not use everyday, directly contributes to the problem. I hope every bag of trash collect motivates everyone to create one less bag of trash everyday too," mentioned Melissa Tan, Climate Action and Sustainability Advocate.

SUSTAINABILITY AND LESS WASTAGE | PEPSI CUP GAME ENCOURAGES BEHAVIOUR CHANGE THIS CHINESE NEW YEAR 2023

Chinese New Year is one of the most significant holidays in Malaysia where families and friends gather to create and celebrate great moments together.

However, there is a tendency for food and beverage waste to happen during this festive occasion, especially when it comes to canned drinks. One brand is cutting through the clutter with a powerful message of sustainability and right-sized consumption: Pepsi. This world-renowned cola-flavoured brand under Etika Sdn Bhd (“Etika”), one of Malaysia’s leading halal beverage manufacturers is challenging accepted norms head-on with its exciting and innovative Pepsi Cup Game.

During Chinese New Year, it is a common practice where guests are served canned drinks but oftentimes, these cans are left half consumed resulting in excessive wastage. Recognising the financial concerns around inflation at this time, and in line with its agenda to become a greener and more sustainable business, Etika has created powerful messaging and an entertaining offer around its 1.5L Pepsi bottle. Every shopper will receive 18 free paper cups made from 100% FSC-certified paper with every purchase of three 1.5L Pepsi bottles.

Amy Gan, Vice President of Marketing of Etika Sdn Bhd shared that another reason canned beverages are frequently served during this busy day is that they are more convenient and less time-consuming. “Cleaning up after any festive season is no doubt tiring - hence to reduce the cleaning up as well as reduce wastage from all those unfinished cans, we hope these paper cups will come in handy.”

In these paper cups, consumers will find a QR code on each cup that will lead them to the Pepsi Cup Game which encompasses a game of truth or dare with Boldest Of All Time (B.O.A.T); reveal your hidden secrets with the Game Of Truth (G.O.T); and the thrilling game of Rabbits and the Big Bad Wolf. These cups urge consumers to only pour as much Pepsi as they can comfortably drink, therefore reducing wastage and decreasing metal (aluminium) waste, while helping families who are hosting guests to stretch their ringgit.

Festivities are all about convening with friends and family, reuniting and creating memories - but it is also important to change behaviours and send out a strong message of sustainability. We were hoping to instil sustainable practices among our consumers by taking a different approach with fun and entertaining games for our customers to enjoy.”

Furthermore, the Pepsi Cup Game also encourages people to be more present in the moment, and not engrossed on their phones, as they can challenge one another to these amusing games.

“To break the ice for everyone to reconnect and truly be present when in each other’s company, Pepsi has incorporated some compelling games where everyone from kids to adults can participate and have fun. Hence, consumers will receive free paper cups with every purchase of three 1.5L Pepsi to fill all 18 cups. Just with these paper cups, Chinese New Year is now more enjoyable with the various interactive games created by Pepsi to heighten the celebration,” said Amy.

Apart from providing consumers with a fun-filled celebration, as inflation is on the rise, Etika is also introducing a 12-can pack of beverages instead of the usual 24-can pack to ensure everyone is able to enjoy their beverage without having to spend additional costs. Consumers can also choose between a Pepsi Black or a 7UP Regular in addition to the Pepsi Regular.

To further amplify and treat its loyal consumers for a boost of prosperous festivity, Pepsi is introducing limited-edition merchandise nationwide on some of its highly anticipated selections of beverages including Pepsi Regular, 7UP Regular and Pepsi Black available in stores. These limited-edition beverage cans will each display a distinctive Chinese New Year design with animals that people are familiar with - symbolising various prosperous meanings in sync with Chinese New Year. The Pepsi Regular cans will feature ‘nian’ which symbolises celebration for the year; Pepsi Black cans will feature a rabbit on the pack which is the zodiac of the coming year, while 7UP Regular cans will feature the lucky koi fish which signifies to have abundance every year

What are you waiting for? Get to your nearest supermarket as soon as you can! Grab them today while stocks last and enjoy the festive season sustainably with your loved ones with these beverages!

#ShopeeGivesBack | Thank You 9,000 Malaysians Raise Funds for Environmental Sustainability

#ShopeeGivesBack Shopee’s long-term community initiative, has raised over RM48,000 from 1 May 2020 to 31 July 2022 for two Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) championing environmentally-conscious efforts in Malaysia. Over two years, WWF-Malaysia and Zero Waste Malaysia received donations from over 9,000 donors, including over 5,500 first time donors.

85% of the funds raised went to assisting WWF-Malaysia, a national conservation trust with more than 90 ongoing projects nationwide. Funds raised are used to safeguard some of Malaysia’s most iconic wildlife – including the Malayan tiger, Bornean elephants, Bornean orangutans and sea turtles – from threats such as poaching and habitat loss. WWF-Malaysia continues to address environmental issues to spread awareness, support education and research, and conserve the local landscape flora and fauna, water, soils, and other natural resources.

Across the two years, Zero Waste Malaysia received 15% of their total donations through #ShopeeGivesBack, supporting them in their efforts to go further in achieving their mission of building a waste-free and sustainable future for the nation. Zero Waste Malaysia advocates for sustainable development and aims to increase the local community’s awareness of sustainable living through education, resources, public engagement, and on-ground initiatives. In 2021 alone, Zero Waste Malaysia received 13% of their total donations through #ShopeeGivesBack.

Huiyan Pan, Head of Brand Marketing at Shopee Malaysia said, “Shopee is moved by the reception of the community in supporting the efforts of our NGO partners in contributing towards environmental change. We firmly believe that with greater awareness and support from shoppers on our marketplace, we can strike a balance towards building a long-term, sustainable future for the environment and the economy.”

“Shopee appreciates being able to play a part in WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts and is thrilled to hear about the efforts that have reduced 90% of snare encounters for the Malayan tiger. In 2020 and 2021, more fresh sightings of the tigers, including a mother and three cubs, were discovered in the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex,” Pan continued.

During Ramadan in 2021 and 2022, these two NGOs saw a collective month-on-month increase in donations of 85% and 113% respectively, from March to April compared to other months through #ShopeeGivesBack. Of the 1,400 donations received, WWF-Malaysia and Zero Waste Malaysia saw 1,000 first time donors donating during a time where generous Malaysians were giving back to communities and causes close to their hearts and values.

“The majority of our donations come from the public, hence the #ShopeeGivesBack platform has helped us reach wider audiences to raise the much needed public support that ensures the continuity of WWF-Malaysia’s vital conservation projects. WWF-Malaysia is also taking action to promote sustainable lifestyles and increase resilience to climate change through policy advocacy and conserving natural ecosystems,” said Helina Yow, Director of Partnerships, WWF-Malaysia.

#ShopeeGivesBack was launched on 1 May 2020 to help the underserved communities in Malaysia across four areas: underprivileged communities development, children and family services, health charities, and environmental charities. The platform provides Malaysians with an online avenue to support their favourite causes in the most convenient way. Shopee ensures that these NGOs have credible track records and are registered with the Registry of Societies.
