Sayangi Malaysiaku | Family Celebrating National Day At Sunway #JomMalaysia Carnival!

Mouse mommy and family were joining the #JomMalaysia Carnival organised by Sunway Group which is being held in front of Sunway Resort & Spa.

As a tribute to the national “Sayangi Malaysiaku” National Day theme, the Carnival aims to bring Malaysians from all walks of life to spend the National Day together as one community. The Carnival will take place on 31 August till 1 September 2018 for 2 days.

The Carnival was officially launched by Sunway EXCO Member, Puan Sri Datin Seri (Dr) Susan Cheah, along with Sunway Group Brand Marketing and Communications Senior General Manager, Jane Poh and Sunway Education Group Senior Executive Director, Dr Elizabeth Lee Fuh Yen.

It is a fun day out for family to celebrate this meaningful Malaysia National Day together. Wish everyone “Selamat Menyambut Hari Kebangsaan Malaysia ke-61!”

“Beca” also known as tricycle is one of the attraction for us. The “Beca” has been decorated with many national flags, flowers and lighting. So colourful and attractive!

Speaking at the launch, Sunway Group Brand Marketing and Communications Senior General Manager, Jane Poh said, “A community that plays together, stays together, and we hope that the #JomMalaysia Carnival will deliver a sense of history, encourage the fostering of new friendships, and strengthen family bonds to make us an even stronger nation.”

As a kick-off to the festivities, there was a Malaysian drum performance by students from Sunway University. This was followed by a trishaw ride flag-off, which was one of the major attractions of the Carnival and a tour around the five experiential spaces - the Flavours of Malaysia (Food), Voices of Malaysia (Music), Cultures of Malaysia (Dance), Arts of Malaysia (Arts & Crafts), and Games of Malaysia (Games).

The morning saw visitors queuing patiently at the entrance of the Carnival, eager to explore the mysterious “Evolution Tunnel” which was built within an existing rock tunnel. Inside, the crowd marvelled at the unique historical timeline which showcased Malaysia’s rich historical heritage alongside Sunway’s transformation from its early mining days into a multinational conglomerate today, in tandem with Malaysia’s progress as a nation.

Enthusiastic foodies queued elbow-to-elbow around the many stalls at the Flavours of Malaysia. Malaysians and tourists where enjoyed local delights such as nasi kerabu, laksa, rojak, cendol and many more delectable fare where recycled crates were used to create a makeshift dining area.

Visitors of all ages swarmed the “Childhood Food Store” to grab their favourite retro snacks such as White Rabbit Candy, Haw Flakes, Eye Glass Candy. Popular snacks like Laughing Cow Belcubes, Biskut Piring, Apollo Chocolate Wafers, Ice Gems, and Roti Ice Cream were snapped up by curious children who were delighted with the sweet and colourful treats.

The graceful dancers from ASWARA Malaysia were a hit with visitors who encircled the Cultures of Malaysia stage. The crowd met every performance with enthusiasm, with some capturing the colourful moments on video while many posed for pictures with the dancers.

Similarly, an enthusiastic group was seen at the Voices of Malaysia space where richly melodic voices and passionate live performances by the Malaysian Buskers Club captivated the audience.

At the Traditional Malaysia Games section, groups of strangers came together to compete with each other amidst humorous laughter and good-natured jibes. Each tried to best other players at old-fashioned games of congkak, batu seremban, teng teng, lompat getah, sepak bulu ayam, and even the eraser battle.

The young entrepreneurs and artisans at the Buatan Malaysia and Heritage Street sections enjoyed brisk sales of their arts and crafts, clothing, accessories, toys and rattan-made items.

Along the Heritage Street, Instagrammers were spotted busily editing their posts after posing with newly bought items or taking a shot of the pre independence architecture.

The event also saw Malaysians pledging to create a greener and more sustainable Malaysia, signing their names on leaves which would result in a tree sapling being planted in Sunway Iskandar, Johor. Sunway is targeting to obtain 6,000 pledges which will translate to 6,000 trees being planted.

Everyone is welcome to support and join the Go Green Tree Planting effort by upload a photo with hashtag #JomMalaysia and #AGreenerMalaysia via Facebook. More photos can click here to view

Watch Swiss Dream Circus This August 2018 School Holidays!

In 1768, the British entrepreneur, showman and horse enthusiast Philip Astley, together with acrobats, jugglers and clowns founded the first circus - it was the beginning of the modern circus as we know it. Gypsies and jesters have been commemorating people, be it the ancient Greeks, Egyptians or even the high culture of the Khmer (today's Cambodia).

The circus is one of the oldest cultural assets around the globe. In Switzerland there are over 14 circus companies and a variety shows that traditionally travel through the country. In 2000, Marco Baumgartner founded the Swiss Dream Circus together with clown Andre Broger and Stephan Balle; with their first guest performance in Singapore.

In 2014, he launched a new edition of the Swiss Dream Circus, this time in in Malaysia. Together with Ismail Stork they lead the ambitious project into a new future. Clown Andre still supports the circus as an artistic consultant and hopefully as chief clown in the years to come.

For years, the Malaysian Royal London Circus was the only circus in the country. Unfortunately, the company closed 2007 and there were no more circus appearances in Malaysia for years after. Thus creating the perfect opportunity for Ismail and Marco. As a result of this ambitious venture, various circus companies sprout up like mushrooms. There are currently four other companies travelling throughout Malaysia. At Swiss Dream Circus, we believe that quality is the only success worth measuring.

Swiss Dream Circus stands for real circus where you can dream with open eyes. "SWISS" stands for quality, "DREAM" for diving into another world and "CIRCUS" for a truly family-centered entertainment which awakens old childhood memories all at once. It is our ambition to create a bridge between tradition and modernity with our circus, especially in this era of digital and technological transformation.

It is not always easy to lead a circus; an infinite number of hurdles must be overcome time and time again; without forgetting the enormous cheques we have to sign! To finance a 2 million project, we rely on partners, sponsors and friends who support us. People who also like to take part of journey full of unforgettable moments.

Before the red curtain opens, tremendous organization goes on in the background. From marketing plans, booking of artists, obtaining permits, organizing visas, transport and accommodations, booking of flights ... all of which make up an almost endless list of things to do.

Just ten days before the first performance, six containers unload tons of material. First, the venue has to be measured and marked, after which more than 80 anchors are rammed into the ground, to support the Big Top. The four 13-meter-high main poles are hydraulically installed.

The 11-meter long dome hangs from it and four pieces of the tent frabric are tied and pulled upwards. Then the grand stand is assembled to fit a maximum capacity of 900 people. The wooden floor is laid and the carpet is rolled out. The artist's entrance with the red velvet curtain is set up and countless spotlights and the sound system are attached to the main poles. Two huge air conditioning chillers are connected by pipes to the tent. Power generators are mounted and erected in the awning; food stands are set up and decorated.

After six days of hard work, the circus is set up. Now the artists have 4 days to get used to the new environment and together with lighting designers, sound engineers and choreographers, a new show is put together from single performances. From dawn to dusk, rehearsing until the show comes together into a harmonious unity. Now the show can begin!

Mouse mommy is going to bring family and kids to watch this Swiss Dream Circus in this August 2018 school holidays! Must be a fun-filled experience for kids!

80’s Musical | Stories From A MixTape At Quill City Mall Kuala Lumpur

Drawing from their own experiences of falling in love and its labyrinth of emotions, local band sensation, Leonard Theng & The Cerita are all set to woo the audience, with their musical prelude, Stories From A Mixtape” which will see them pay homage to 80’s music and lyrics, navigating the highs and lows of one’s first encounter with the four letter word, LOVE!

Under the direction of Leonard Theng, this musical offers KLites a journey encompassing adolescence, with notable highlights focusing on the laughter and tears of the 80’s teenage love stories, which many today can make references too. Promising to keep the audience entertained, Leonard Theng & The Cerita, will be creating a myriad of roller-coaster emotions and a night of reminiscence, capturing the essence of teenage love in various scenes.

We hope to make this musical into a household repertoire, bringing in together thousands of Malaysians to celebrate the power of music that brings people together, regardless of stature or religion, whilst focusing on this “New hopeful Malaysia” rather than the differences that has set us apart for many years, quipped Mr. Leonard Theng.

Broken down into four parts and featuring hit songs from the 1980’s, the musical scores will be performed by Leonard Theng & The Cerita, whilst the storyline will be narrated and acted by Jiggee Jon.

Audience will be glued to their seats from Scene 1 - CAN’T FIGHT THIS FEELING, where almost if not at least 85% have experienced that first crush, that one person whom we were secretly “in love” with, that girl or guy you were infatuated with, how your world just lit up with just by a glimpse of her / his smile.

SCENE 2 - THE POWER OF LOVE. Reminiscing the moment when you first held hands? That gentle embrace as you look deep into each other’s eyes? How time stood still during your first kiss? What a feeling! Everything was perfect in that moment! You found your soul mate!

The subsequent scene deals with the reality of love. Scene 3 - SHATTERED DREAMS, explores the emptiness inside your heart as you watch her / him disappear into crowd at the airport as she/ he goes away to further her/ his studies. The countless letters written with no response! The moment when you realize that you are no longer the centre of her / his world. It’s really over and it hurts like nothing you’ve experienced before! Your first break up!

SCENE 4 - NOTHINGS GONNA STOP US NOW, basically acts as reminder of how you wake up one morning and realize that your tears are in vain. You move on and get over that person. You hang out with your friends and party! You meet new people, make new friends, travel. You want to live life to the fullest!

There are 4 Acts in each scene in Stories from A Mixtape that highlights the various parts of the first love experience with acting and music. This musical reflects the scale and passion of this band consisting of Leonard Theng & The Cerita.

The band came together about two years ago sharing a common goal in the Malaysian music industry. That goal was to create shows with a specific storyline and emotional link that will have the audience wanting more. Each band members have backed up Local & International recording artist such as Atilia Haron, Ning Baizura, Kris Dayanti, Alleycats, and Ella, they have also been involved with a few successful musicals in Kuala Lumpur such as Ola Bola, Fame & Charlie Brown.

From performing in Rock Festivals, Jazz festivals and also notably a tribute to the late Sudirman by TAS Seni Teater Rakyat, ONE THOUSAND MILLION SMILES, Leonard Theng & The Cerita have the experience, credentials and passion to make this goal of theirs a reality via this musical act.

The first musical event will be held at Quill Convention Centre@ Quill City Mall, on 3rd August 2018, with tickets being sold at RM110 per ticket. The second showcase will be held on 13th October, 2018 at Drum Asia Life, Kota Kinabalu and potential third showcase to be held in November in Johor Bahru.
