World Sleep Day 2020 | AmLife Advocates “Better Sleep, Better Life, Better Planet”


A good quality of sleep is important in our daily life. AmLife International Sdn. Bhd. returned with its World Sleep Day tribute for the fifth year in a row. 


Co-hosted by the World Sleep Society, AmLife presented a sleep health showcase at Palace of the Golden Horses to members of the media.


Reinforcing its tagline, “Life, Redefined,” AmLife is spearheading the movement to enable Malaysians achieve better health through better sleep, thus redefining their lives.


This year marks the fifth time year we are organising the World Sleep Day sleep health showcase with the World Sleep Society under the theme “Better Sleep, Better Life, Better Planet” to promote good sleep for health & quality of life.


According to Mr Lew Mun Yee, Founder & President of AmLife, sleep education is not only close to our hearts and our business philosophy, but is increasingly important as sleep disorders are escalating in the region. 


Together with World Sleep Society, AmLife is hosting a sleep showcase which includes sleep workshops and demos in 3 key countries – Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan this year,” said Mr. Lew.


Consider the stark facts!
According to a survey by the World Health Organization, 27% people having sleep problems in 14 countries.
 According to World Sleep Association, there is a growing trend in sleep disorders, with an increasing number of affected population in the country.
 35% Malaysians have some sort of sleeping disorders.
More than 53 per cent of Malaysia’s workforce gets less than the minimal 7 hours sleep in a 24 hour period with at least 51 per cent suffering from work-related stress.
 9 out of 10 Malaysians have some level of insomnia and have one or more kinds of sleeping problems.



The Deadly Threats Due To Lack Of Sleep

STROKE - 4 TIMES HIGHER
According to USA Today, people who sleep less than 6 hours a day have 4 times higher stroke risk than those who sleep longer.

OBESITY - 73% HIGHER
A study by Columbia University revealed that people who sleep less have 73% higher chance of becoming obese.

CANCER - 47% HIGHER
A study by American Cancer Society discovered that people who sleep less than
7 hours a day have 47%.

HEART - 1.45 TIMES HIGHER
Lack of sleep can easily lead to myocardial infarction. Study found that people who sleep less than 5 hours a day have 1.45 times higher risk of developing coronary artery heart disease.


As such, at the media event, AmLife invited a few international speakers to share sleep health insights.


Ms. Rosemary Clancy, Clinical Psychologist in Sydney Sleep Centre and a Registered Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency – AHPRA –, who shared how a sleeping pill habit evolves and its long-term effect.


Did you know besides the right sleeping environment, the right food can help promote better sleep? Mr. Kerwin Chen, Nutritionist / Food Researcher who shared his insights on achieving quality sleep thru proper dietary nutrition and home-cooked recipes.


The sleep problem is bringing the vigorous development of the sleep health industry, which has spawned a lucrative sleep industry and began to form a large-scale, stable demand industry.
