Alce Nero | 45 Years of Pioneering Organic and Sustainable Living Celebration

Organic produce and foods really took off in the early 2000s, soon after the European Union (EU) countries acquired comprehensive organic legislation in 1992 and the United States’ Foods Production Act 19902 was introduced.

However, way before it was globally accredited or on-trend, Alce Nero began pioneering organic produce and foods in 1978 when two cooperatives of Italian farmers decided to pioneer the organic revolution, producing wholesome food while respecting the environment. Alce Nero combines old farming methods with the most advanced research on health and the environment.

Today, Alce Nero is the No 1 organic brand in Italy. Our producers are involved in all stages of manufacture, thus, we can guarantee high quality, 100% organic, authentically Italian products that can be traced to its origins. The Alce Nero concept is farm-to-table, with as few steps in between as possible. Best of all, these products are grown without pesticides or synthetic chemicals, non-polluting and with no Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) to meet global organic certification standards. All Alce Nero products are certified organic proudly displaying the European Organic Certification and the Japanese Organic Certification.

Fittingly Alce Nero is celebrating its 45th anniversary coinciding with National Organic Month3 in September, and segueing into National Pasta Month in October. Combine these months through Alce Nero for a feast of organic pastas, and produce that are better for you and your family’s health, kinder to the Earth and more sustainable.

While pasta traces its origins to Italy, get creative this National Organic Month and National Pasta Month experimenting with fusion recipes that add elements of your culinary culture to Italian origin organic pasta from Alce Nero.

We have compiled some pasta recipes with distinctly Malaysian tastes to get you started.

Alce Nero Whole Wheat Laksa Carbonara

Kids, and many adults love carbonara but traditional carbonara can be a bit heavy, and bland to local palates. Alce Nero combines spicy laksa with creamy carbonara for a fusion fantasy that will have you hungry for more.

Cook the Alce Nero Whole Wheat Spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside. In a bowl, whisk the eggs and season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Set aside. Heat a bit of cooking oil in a pan, add the laksa paste and sauté for a few minutes until fragrant. Pour in the Ayam Brand Organic Coconut Milk and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Slowly drizzle the whisked eggs into the laksa mixture while continuously stirring to create a creamy texture. Add cooked chicken and prawns to the laksa carbonara sauce.

Toss the cooked pasta into the laksa carbonara sauce, ensuring the pasta is well coated. Season with more salt and pepper to taste as needed. Serve the Alce Nero Laksa Carbonara in individual bowls, garnished with freshly chopped cilantro leaves and enjoy.

Prep time: 5 minutes, cook time: 25 minutes, serves: 3-4 pax

Alce Nero Rendang Bolognese

Spaghetti bolognese is for many of us the quintessential Italian pasta, although lacking in the spices that local tastebuds crave. Try Alce Nero rendang bolognese for a fusion of the best of Italian and Malay culinary culture.

Cook the Alce Nero Tricolore Spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside. Heat a tablespoon of Alce Nero Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauteeing until fragrant. Add minced beef to the pan, brown until cooked through, breaking it up as you stir. Stir in the Ayam Brand Rendang Paste, ground cumin, and ground coriander. Cook for five minutes to infuse the flavours.

Add diced carrot and celery to the pan. Cook until the vegetables start to soften. Pour in the Ayam Brand Chopped Tomatoes, Ayam Brand Organic Coconut Milk, beef or vegetable broth, and Ayam Brand Tomato Puree. Stir well and let the mixture simmer over medium- low heat allowing the flavours to meld together and the sauce to thicken. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the rendang bolognese sauce over the cooked Alce Nero Tricolore Spaghetti. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro leaves for a burst of freshness & enjoy.

Prep time: 10 minutes, cook time: 40 minutes, serves: 4-5 pax

Alce Nero Stir-Fried Pesto Pasta

Pesto is basically a thicker Hakka lei cha so the fusion element is in the stir-frying of the Alce Nero Stir-fried Pesto Pasta.

Cook the Alce Nero Spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

In a food processor, combine the fresh basil leaves, pine nuts, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Pulse until the ingredients are finely blended. With the food processor running, slowly drizzle in the Alce Nero Extra-Virgin Olive Oil until the mixture forms a smooth pesto sauce. Adjust the seasoning to taste.

Heat butter in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until fragrant and translucent. Add bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, and zucchini to the pan and sauté for a few minutes until they are slightly tender. Toss the cooked Alce Nero Spaghetti into the pan with the sautéed vegetables. Add the prepared pesto sauce to the pan and mix everything together until the pasta is evenly coated. Cook for an additional couple of minutes to warm up the pesto and combine the flavours. Serve the stir-fried pesto pasta in individual plates, garnished with extra grated Parmesan cheese and enjoy.

Prep time: 10 minutes, cook time: 25 minutes, serves: 4-5 pax

SHINE For PINK GALA DINNER 2023 | Join and Support This Fund Raising Dinner For Underprivileged Breast Cancer Patients

The Breast Cancer Resource Centre (BCRC) team at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), in partnership with the Candy Girls Support Group, is delighted to unveil our initiatives for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. This annual observance serves as a critical reminder of the importance of early detection, awareness, and support for those affected by this widespread disease.

Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent health issues globally, affecting individuals and their families. It is the most prevalent cancer among Malaysian women. The impact is profound, underscoring the need for proactive measures and unified efforts to combat this disease.

With early detection, treatment is more effective and recovery chances increase. However, the socioeconomically challenged demographic faces a reduced likelihood of receiving timely and suitable medical care due to elevated healthcare expenses, resulting in an unfavourable survival rate.

Hence, our team is dedicated to making a significant impact this Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a series of planned events and activities designed to inform, support and inspire. Our activities include:

i)   Women’s Health Forum: A whole day event that will be held on the 21st of October 2023 at Auditorium South Tower, UMMC. This forum is in collaboration with the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation, which is headed by Datuk Dr. Devanand and Ms. Yong Lee Lee.

T   The forum will encompass a diverse array of topics, offering comprehensive insights into various aspects of breast cancer. Several interesting topics to look forward to include “Lifestyle Choices for Breast Cancer Prevention”, “Navigating Insurance and Financial Challenges in Breast Cancer Care”, “Update on Surgical Management in Early Breast Cancer” and many more. The event has a RM50 registration fee and is limited to the first 250 participants.

I.    Pink Gala Dinner 2023: A fundraising dinner that will be held on the 25th November 2023 at Komune Living & Wellness - LG@The Event Place for the B40 Diagnostic Funds.

As a one stop centre for breast cancer care, our team receives patients nationwide with a majority of them coming from the B40 economic group who are unable to finance their diagnostic investigations and lose the opportunity for an early diagnosis. Patients are forced to delay treatment which reduces their overall survival rate. The B40 Diagnostic Fund is dedicated to providing financial support to underprivileged patients for their diagnostic investigations of breast cancer.

Besides being a fundraiser, the event is organised to celebrate and support breast cancer survivors and will feature singing and traditional dance performances by breast cancer survivors from the UMMC Candy Girls Support Group. Furthermore, our Pink Gala dinner will include an exhibition on our traditional wear - the Kebaya Costume - from PakarBusana Melayu Tanahair and Mrs. Asia Worldwide which is part of the efforts to raise and gain UNESCO’s acknowledgement of kebaya as a world heritage.

With our Pink October Ambassadors - Dato' Sri Shyleena Faridah Khamis, Founder from Mrs Asia Worldwide and Ms. Chiong Pei Pei, Chief Brand Officer from Eshoplive Sdn. Bhd. making the height of this fundraising event meaningful and inspiring.

We invite individuals, organisations, and communities to join us in our efforts this October. Here's how you can make a difference:

i)    Participate in Fundraising: Your donation can support vital research and patient assistance programmes.

Spread Awareness: Share our campaigns and educational resources on social media to help raise awareness.

I.     Attend Our Events: Join us at our events to learn, engage, and show your support.

I     Support Survivors: Reach out to those who have battled breast cancer and offer your encouragement and understanding.

For more information on our Pink October 2023: “Closing the Care Gap” activities and how to get involved, please visit our website at https://ummc.edu.my

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time for unity, compassion, and action. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer.

Food Paradise | Go on an Epic Journey of Taste at Pavilion Bukit Jalil!

We can all agree that if Malaysians want to gather, they will do it over food. Be it brunch, tea or supper, for Malaysians a meet up with loved ones is not complete without something delicious to munch on.

With this in mind, we’ve put together an epic foodie list at Pavilion Bukit Jalil in conjunction with the Pavilion Taste campaign happening from now until 13 November 2023.

Halal-Certified & Muslim-Friendly Haven

Pavilion Bukit Jalil is home to some great halal and muslim-freindly choices (with over 40 options) that are perfect for everyone. Indulge in everyone’s favourite Kyochon 1991 for the best Korean fried chicken with a choice of red pepper or garlic flavours to choose from.

Alternatively, shoppers can also head over to Kagura Ramen for a warm and hearty bowl of ramen with 6 specialty broths and various other rich broths to choose from!

Malaysians are no strangers to all-you-can-eat buffets and almost everyone knows and loves Suki-Ya.  A crowd favourite, this restaurant offers a great all-you-can-eat hotpot special at an affordable price. There are  four delectable soup bases that guests can choose from (shabu shabu, miso, sukiyaki, and kimuchi), but the best part? All their meats are free flow as well!

For those looking for something beyond the usual hotpot, the newly opened BBQ Town serves up some mouth-watering all-you-can-eat barbeque. The buffet-style restaurant combines the flavours of a good barbeque with shabu-shabu and offers unlimited Australian beef, lamb, chicken and prawn, sushi, and vegetables. Guests can also enjoy the enhanced flavours of six-hour-long kombu chicken soup and complimentary fried chicken as starters to get those appetites going.

Similarly, MoMo Paradise (non-halal) is a foodie’s dream. What guests typically love about this restaurant is their
free flow Australian beef and sakura pork, as well as the option to add on premium Australian Wagyu. The restaurant also features over 20 different types of fresh vegetables to pair with your meal, and their friendly staff is always ready to help guests create their own sauce or to assist with the cooking process.

Aside from the regular Irish meals on offer, guests should try the special Guinness bak kut teh which is best paired with – you guessed it – a frothy pint of Guinness. Alternatively, Healy Mac’s Irish Restaurant and Bar is one that you don’t want to miss. The restaurant is known for their friendly staff, fun atmosphere and delicious delights. Their fish is coated with a crisp batter, seasoned to perfection and served with a healthy side of chips and a twist of lemon. Healy Mac’s also offers a unique green pea sauce as an alternative to the classic tartar sauce.

For the meat-eaters, the self-proclaimed “antidote for a carnivore”, Naughty Babe, Dirty Duck is a popular European fusion restaurant known for their pork and their duck – and guests cannot visit the restaurant without having the Naughty Babe Dirty Duck BBQ pork ribs. Lacquered with homemade barbecue sauce and grilled to perfection, the pork ribs are best accompanied by the restaurant’s homemade flaming hot chilli sauce.

For those looking for a spot to unwind, SOUL-ed Out is the perfect place for you to kick back with your friends on a Friday night. While they dish out some delicious food, it’s their appetisers and drinks that really shine.
