#KitaJagaKita Guardian is distributing 15,000 bottles of hand sanitisers to Guardian shoppers and charity organisations! The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and threatens the population especially the vulnerable and the needy.

Recognising the fact that we need to take care of ourselves ( #KitaJagaKita ) and being a caring and socially responsible corporate citizen, Guardian Malaysia has initiated a charity campaign to equip the needy and its loyal customers with sanitisers - an important  essential  - to enable them to maintain high  levels of personal hygiene to stay safe.

Anna Ng, Retail Marketing Director, Guardian Health And Beauty, Malaysia and Singapore said:

“We are extremely aware of how important and essential it is to keep our hands clean in the fight against the spread of Covid-19.  Apart from our loyal customers, none are more vulnerable than the less-privileged and the needy, such as the elderly and children in welfare homes.  This  campaign is one way of helping to make sure both our customers and the needy have effective hand sanitisers to clean their hands and maintain hygiene.”

“Called the ‘Guardian Healthy Beauty from the Heart’ campaign, we will be distributing  15,000 bottles to our customers and 14 charity homes and organizations throughout Malaysia and would be  enlisting our customers to participate in this worthy cause,” she added.

To kick-start the campaign Guardian Malaysia  will distribute  about 3,000 bottles of hand sanitisers to the selected charity organizations beginning early December.

“Then beginning December 16, we will roll out the initiative at our stores and also our online store at www.guardian.com.my whereby  customers who spend RM40 and above in a single receipt will receive a complimentary bottle of hand sanitiser.

“They will have the option to donate their bottle of hand sanitiser to the charity home or organisation selected in their respective states where their Guardian store is located.

“All they need to do is to scan the QR code in the Campaign poster displayed at their store and pass the bottle back to our staff who will then collect the bottles for onward distribution to the charity organisation identified in their state.  We have allocated 12,000 bottles of sanitisers for our customers’ participation,” Anna said.

This in-store campaign will run for a week from December 16 to December 20, 2020 or until stocks run out.

What Is The Signs Of Iron Deficiency Anemia And How To Cure It ?

Iron deficiency anemia was not a term I was very conversant with a few years back. That's when a close friend who wasn't exactly the most vivacious of people suddenly became more reserved. At first, we, as her friends, limited ourselves to teasing her that her being indoors always was the reason she looked so pale. When she started complaining of some other severe symptoms, we forced her to see a doctor. After a couple of visits and lab tests, she got a diagnosis: iron deficiency anemia.

This is a relatively common health issue that could present with several symptoms. Below are some signs that might be pointing to iron deficiency anemia and what you can do about it.

[ Symptoms of iron deficiency anemia ]

Fatigue

Constant fatigue is one of the significant symptoms of iron deficiency anemia. What kept my friend indoors so much wasn't that she suddenly disliked all the activities we used to enjoy together, she just never felt she had enough strength to go through things like a visit to the mall or going to a park. If you find yourself quickly tiring out for no reason, iron deficiency anemia may be the causative factor. Iron is essential for the synthesis of the hemoglobin component of red blood cells. When the muscles are deprived of adequate oxygen, they don't generate sufficient energy to power the different physical activities you engage in, so you quickly get fatigued.

Shortness Of Breath (SOB)

I have a friend who didn't have to go out to feel all out of breath. She thought it was the ventilation in the house at first. If you catch yourself gasping on multiple occasions or generally feeling short of breath, iron deficiency anemia could be the cause. Iron is crucial for oxygen transport by the red blood cells.

Paleness

This was a major sticking point with my friend. We often implored her to go out more often when we saw how pale she was. Being unusually pale may be a pointer to you having iron deficiency anemia. It indeed turned out so with my friend.

Cold Hands And Feet

My friend didn't seriously experience this, but I found out it was a likely pointer too. The body extremities- the hands and feet may sometimes feel cold to touch even in the absence of low ambient temperatures. A reason for this is inadequate blood supply due to reduced blood volume in iron deficiency anemia.

[ How To Cure Iron Deficiency Anemia ]

When looking to manage iron deficiency anemia effectively, there are several steps you can take, including:

Dietary Modifications To Improve The Intake Of Food Rich In Iron

I like the dietary changes approach as they are natural and an effective long term strategy for dealing with iron deficiency. Some foods rich in iron that you can add to your meal servings include beans, dark leafy vegetables like spinach, whole grains, fruits like cashew and Slendez Meal by BE International, an instant solution to this condition is by eating foods rich in iron or taking iron supplements to treat the symptoms by increasing the iron Level needed in our body

Iron Supplements

Sometimes dietary changes may not suffice - my friend needed iron supplements too. Some of these as tablets are available on an over the counter basis. They may be used to boost the body iron levels and consequently manage iron deficiency anemia. However, I would strongly advise seeking medical expertise regarding the optimal use of iron supplements.

Treat The Underlying Cause
Sometimes it's not only iron being deficient in your diet that can lead to iron deficiency anemia. It may be as a result of several underlying factors other than reduced dietary intake of iron. These may include excessive blood loss as may occur in accidents, occult bleeding, or heavy menstruation. It may also arise from malabsorption states in which your body cannot absorb iron from the diet. In this case, you must treat and resolve the underlying issues combined with improving your iron intake.

Get The Best Auto Insurance Deal In Malaysia

Save my pocket money. You don't want to spend more than what you need for auto insurance, but it isn't always obvious how to find the best deal. In Malaysia, there are over twenty Takaful and Insurance companies such as Etiqa and RHB Auto insurance, all competing for your business. Quite a number of them have an attractive variety of policy options, making it hard to compare policies and figure out who's offering the best auto insurance deal. Here are a few things you can do to find the best auto insurance deal at the cheapest possible rate.

Never presume any one company is the cheapest

Some companies spend a great deal of cash on commercials to persuade you they offer the lowest auto insurance rates. But, there's no single insurance company that has the lowest rate for everybody. The insurer that is least expensive for you may be the most costly option for another driver. The best way to guarantee you're getting the least rate is to compare different auto insurance rates.

Comparing and contrasting auto insurance quotes may not be the most elating part of your day, yet it can spare you a great deal of cash. Though most insurance companies use almost the same factors when setting rates, however, they all have their own "X factor".

So two insurance companies can charge fiercely different prices for the same person. To get the best rate, and evade overpaying, it's important to compare auto insurance quotes from different companies.

Don't overlook the smaller insurance companies

The best auto insurance companies don't merely give their clients the coverage they need at a sensible cost; they also provide a customer-first experience from quote to claim, as well as a stress-free way to manage policies and make payments. Indeed, the big insurance companies control the greater part of the country's auto insurance business. However, smaller insurance companies sometimes do have higher consumer loyalty and satisfaction ratings than the top firms — and they may have lower auto insurance rates, as well. Please search for the best price, and don't neglect the small insurers, they may very well have the best deal that you crave for.

Enquire about discounts

Insurers give an assortment of discounts, which may mean lower insurance rates for clients who:

  • Bundle auto insurance with different policies, for example, mortgage holders' protection.
  • Insure various vehicles with one policy.
  • Have a clean slate driving history.
  • Pay their annual premium at a go.
  • Own a car with safety features.

Try not to be influenced, by an extensive rundown of possible discounts. Compare rates from numerous insurers.

Increase Your Deductible

If you purchase comprehensive coverage, you can save more cash by settling on higher deductibles. Expanding your deductible or bringing down your coverage limits or types can prompt higher savings.

Look for Add-On Covers Available

Insurance companies do extend car policy coverage to include additional benefits apart from the standard coverage. It's essential to speak with your insurers to request for these other benefits and covers. These covers include:

  • Rainstorm, Windstorm, hurricane, landslide, earthquake, etc.
  • Windscreen or windows glass breakage
  • Civil unrest
  • Tuition and testing purposes
  • Additional business use and named driver

Your auto insurance rates will eventually, be determined by personal factors, for example, where you live, your credit score (for the best rates, a score of 770 or above is suggested) the type of car, its age and your driving history. Fortunately, you can bring down your insurance coverage costs if you keep up a safe driving record or work on your credit score.

When you finally decide on the insurance company that is best for you, you still need to do your due diligence on the company. First, double-check that the company is licensed in your state by visiting their website. Here you can also review information about customer complaints filed against them. More so, you can check review websites and talk to people about their experiences with their insurance company.

Musculoskeletal Health To Support Better Quality Life For Adults

Malaysians aged 60 years and above is expected to double[i] from the current estimate of 10.3% of the population[ii] by 2040! Recognising the importance for Malaysia’s aging population to maintain their musculoskeletal health, which can affect their mobility, flexibility, balance and thereby quality of life as they age, Fonterra Brands Malaysia through its adult nutrition brand Anlene™ introduces ACTIFIT 3X™ and GOLD 5X™, formulated to provide important nutrients for Malaysian adults.

The Social Wellbeing Research Centre at Universiti Malaya projected the number of Malaysians aged 60 years and above to reach 6.3 million in 2040, which is about 2 out of every 10 Malaysiansi. Not only is the number of our ageing population increasing rapidly, life expectancy of our silver population is expected to increase as well – men whose age reached 65 years in 2019 are expected to live a further 14.8 years to nearly 80; and women aged 65 last year are expected to live a further 17.8 years[iii] to about 82 years.

According to Dr. Nor I'zzati Saedon, who is consultant geriatric and senior lecturer of internal medicine at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), musculoskeletal health is one of the key factors in enabling people to live their lives independently and it starts with building and maintaining bones, muscles and joints that will continue to be strong for many years ahead. The musculoskeletal system provides form, support, stability, and movement to the body. It is made up of the bones of the skeleton, muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together.

“It is easy for middle aged adults in their 40s to not notice their own musculoskeletal health when they don’t have any condition, such as pain resulting from injury or bad posture. Being able to walk requires strength, flexibility and balance. Simple tasks like eating and dressing needs dexterity of the hands and wrists. Being able to reach up, bend over and squat down, allows people to carry out everyday activities like gardening, cooking and cleaning. Any individual would like to continue to be able to do all these without any support and assistance, especially when they progress into their 60’s and beyond,” she says.

Another expert in the musculoskeletal field is chiropractor, Mr. Calvin Shun, Founder of Osso Bone Care Chiropractic, who highlights changes in the musculoskeletal system as one ages. “Our bones may start to deteriorate from as early as 30s[iv] , losing up to 20% of bone density[v] and our joint cartilages (the ‘cushions’ between joints) may have significant degeneration in our 40s[vi]. Our muscle functions may become weaker by losing up to 29% of its strength[vii] as we age,” he says.

“Musculoskeletal conditions, such as osteoarthritis which usually occurs in our knees can interfere with people’s ability to carry out their daily normal activities. Common symptoms include pain, stiffness and reduction of flexibility. That will reduce level of mobility, and in the long run may rob people of their independence and impairing their ability to participate in family, social and working life, and thus their quality of life could be affected,” he continues.

Shun says degeneration of bone mass, muscles or joint cartilage may accelerate with aging, but there are several common steps one could take to slow it down. He advises middle aged adults to maintain a healthy weight; exercise regularly, especially work outs that build muscles and maintain strong bones; take care of small injuries and do not allow them to develop into bigger issues that affect movements; and always remember to sit and walk with the right postures!

In terms of nutrition, Puan Megawati Suzari, Director of New Product Development, Scientific & Regulatory Affairs at Fonterra Brands Malaysia which markets Anlene™, highlights the importance for middle aged adults to care for their mobility via maintaining strong bones, joints and muscles, which are also necessary for active living and healthy aging. “On top of improving lifestyle by becoming physically active, adopting a good dietary habit is equally important,” she says.

A recent
study[viii] highlights the importance of both regular exercise and milk intake as part of a balanced diet. It shows that participants who consumed 2 glasses of milk added with MFGM (Milk Fat Globule Membrane) and important nutrients plus regular exercises had 2X the improvement in flexibility, 3X the improvement in balance and 40% more improvement in muscle mass compared to control.

“Eating a balanced diet by including nutritious food is required to support adults’ musculoskeletal health. Anlene™ ACTIFIT 3X™ and GOLD 5X™ are formulated specifically to complement a balanced diet which is important to support musculoskeletal health” says Megawati.

New Anlene™ GOLD 5X™ is scientifically formulated with key nutrients that are important to support adults’ nutritional needs and has no added sugars. An important ingredient in the product is MFGM Active™, which contains MFGM - a combination of lipids and proteins that provides similar compounds to those found in joint fluids. Let’s enjoy the goodness of Anlene™ GOLD 5X™!

In each glass of milk, you can now enjoy the goodness of Anlene™ ACTIFIT 3X™ that comes with high calcium, high protein, vitamin B2, B6, B12, C, D, E and collagen, while Anlene™ GOLD 5X™ is scientifically formulated to provide the same nutrients that 3X™ offers, plus MFGM Active™ and with no added sugars.

Anlene™ ACTIFIT 3X™ and GOLD 5X™ are brought to Malaysian consumers by Fonterra Brands Malaysia, a company committed to the highest of food safety and quality standards. Both products are now available at major retailers nationwide and online at our official stores on Shopee and Lazada.
