guardian Empowers Women Through the KL Women Running Festival 2026

guardian Malaysia is stepping up its commitment to women's wellness with the inaugural KL Women Running Festival (KLWRF) 2026, a a new flagship platform bringing women together to celebrate movement, wellness and community.

guardian is proud to support an event expected to attract more than 8,000 participants, making it one of Malaysia’s largest women-focused running events. Taking place on 18 October 2026 at Dataran Merdeka, the festival will feature 5km, 10km and 15km race categories and welcomes women aged 16 and above from all walks of life.

More than a running event, KLWRF reflects guardian’s broader commitment to championing women’s wellness by encouraging women to take an active role in their physical, emotional and overall wellbeing.

Speaking at the launch, Priscilla Wu, Managing Director of guardian Malaysia and Brunei, said: “At guardian, we believe women’s wellness is about more than simply looking after our health. It is about having the confidence, knowledge and support to live healthier and more fulfilling lives at every stage.

“The KL Women Running Festival brings this belief to life by creating a space where women can come together, get active, connect with one another and celebrate their strength. We are proud to support the inaugural festival that inspires more women to prioritise their wellbeing.”

The festival is organised by SCORE Sports Management. Its Chief Executive Officer Patricia Tan said the festival was created to make running more welcoming and accessible to women regardless of their experience. “When we first talked about guardian KL Women Running Festival, we knew we didn’t want to create just another race. We wanted women to come without feeling that they needed to be experienced runners or run at a certain pace to belong,” said Tan.

Building a Community around Women’s Wellness

The launch of KLWRF builds on guardian’s growing commitment to working with partners across the healthcare, government and community ecosystem to support women’s wellbeing.

Taking place on 18 October 2026 at Dataran Merdeka, the guardian's KL Women Running Festival 2026 will also be graced by the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, underscoring the Ministry’s support for initiatives that promote women’s health, active lifestyles and wellbeing across different stages of life.

The Ministry’s participation also builds on its collaboration with guardian through the nationwide Listening Lab research initiative, which helped provide insights into the experiences and needs of women navigating midlife and informed guardian’s Embracing Midlife Wellness initiative.

Priscilla added: “The Ministry welcomes initiatives that encourage women to take greater ownership of their health and wellbeing. We are pleased that the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development has agreed to grace the guardian KL Women Running Festival, in support of efforts that encourage women to stay active and raise awareness of important life stages such as midlife and menopause. The collaboration between the Ministry and guardian demonstrates how public-private partnerships can help strengthen awareness and support networks for women’s wellbeing across every stage of life.”

Championing Wellness through every Life Stage KLWRF 2026 will bring together women of different ages, backgrounds and lifestyles through an inclusive celebration of health and active living.

The festival forms part of guardian’s wider wellness commitment, which focuses on making health and wellbeing more accessible through education, professional healthcare support, community engagement and relevant wellness solutions.

This includes guardian’s Embracing Midlife Wellness initiative, which aims to provide women with greater awareness, education and support as they navigate the physical and lifestyle changes associated with midlife.

Through its nationwide network of trusted pharmacists, guardian continues to provide

accessible healthcare advice and guidance to help women make more informed decisions about their wellbeing.

Priscilla added: “Women play many different roles throughout their lives – as daughters, mothers, partners, professionals, caregivers, friends and leaders. Their health and wellbeing can often take a back seat as they care for others.

“We want to encourage women to make time for themselves too. Whether that means becoming more active, learning more about their health, seeking professional advice or simply connecting with other women, every step towards better wellbeing matters.”

Embracing Midlife | Inside guardian’s New Wellness Push

guardian Malaysia today launched its ‘Embracing Midlife Wellness’ advocacy campaign to help more Malaysian women recognise the early signs of perimenopause – an often misunderstood life stage that could affect an estimated 3.59 million Malaysian women aged 35 to 49 (22% of females nationwide) between now and the next decade.

This sizeable number of the population experiences truly serious life gaps on a daily basis. Seeking to understand the gaps, guardian conducted a Listening Lab qualitative session with women in both the perimenopause and menopause life stages in collaboration with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development

The research uncovered widespread signs’ misattribution especially amongst the perimenopause participants. Issues like hot flushes are being blamed on the weather while acne is linked to stress, migraines being dismissed and mood changes seen as personality flaws. Support from those closest to them has also been lacking – as shared by one participant, “I think the people around us… generally, orang lelaki kat Malaysia ni, aren’t very alert to how perimenopause affects women.”

Perimenopause is under-recognised and under-discussed.

“Many Malaysian women in their late 30s and 40s are silently struggling with signs they cannot name. This needs to change,” said Priscilla Wu, Managing Director of guardian Malaysia and Brunei.

Recognising and respecting Perimenopause – right NOW!

In order to improve the recognition of and encourage advocacy on perimenopause, guardian hosted a landmark panel event in the city centre. Kickstarting its advocacy campaign across its online and offline ecosystem, the special panel’s discussion on perimenopause raised awareness about signs as well as the importance of access to trustworthy information and support throughout this life milestone.

This expert panel saw Dr Premitha Damodaran, Consultant Gynaecologist, Menopause and Women’s Health at Pantai Hospital KL join Nadhrah Maidin, women’s wellness coach and Pilates instructor and Dr Lennie Soo, neuro-counselling psychologist and founder of 360 Wellness Hub, in discussion. Each of these ladies brought along their unique viewpoints on the physiological, mental and emotional needs of women going through perimenopause contributing to an intimate discussion moderated by celebrity TV anchor, Daphne Iking

“Too many women spend months – or even years – wondering what’s happening to them, searching for answers, never realising that hormonal changes may be the cause. Earlier recognition of perimenopause leads to earlier support, better care, and a better quality of life. No woman should have to face this journey alone or suffer in silence,” said Dr Premitha

Embracing Midlife Wellness: Supporting every woman along the way

“The women in our Listening Labs told us about their concerns and unmet needs. Perimenopause is not a niche conversation – it is a national one. As Malaysia’s No. 1 Health and Beauty Retailer* serving millions of shoppers annually, we believe in playing an important role to help our customers make informed health decisions through trusted expert advice, accessible and accurate information and curated solutions throughout their life stages,” shared Priscilla

To drive this nationally beyond the expert panel is guardian’s ‘Embracing Midlife Wellness’ campaign which holistically supports women across the following three dimensions:

  • Education via the Perimenopause Hub, accessible through the guardian app and website
  • In-store guidance by guardian’s trusted pharmacists & dedicated in-store spaces
  • Easier product discovery (online & in-store) via MTick®-certified products

Besides transforming its stores from being a transactional stop to a proactive support space for women in the perimenopause and menopause life stages, guardian has also step-changed its online ecosystem via the launch of its educational Perimenopause Hub that contains expert-backed information. Its eStore has also been enhanced with MTick® certification, making perimenopause and menopause support more accessible and empowering.

“A key enabler of these enhancements is our decision to be part of GenM Collective and the adoption of MTick® - a universal certification symbol helping shoppers identify products across the categories of vitamins, sleep and heart health, skin health, hair and body odour and feminine care that may support one or more of the 48 signs of menopause,” explained Priscilla.

The curated selections of MTick®-certified products are featured in dedicated in-store spaces and shoppers with questions can consult guardian’s trusted pharmacists at its stores.

“To all the Malaysian women out there who are in their late 30s and 40s, midlife is no longer a time of doubt and silent suffering. The new dawn starts today as we strive to help empower you to navigate midlife with confidence,” concluded Priscilla
