Dubbed the ‘Check-Up’ campaign, Sensodyne
Malaysia is encouraging individuals who are unsure if they are suffering from
tooth sensitivity to first visit the Sensodyne Malaysia Facebook page http://mysensodynecheckup.com/ and
take the sensitivity test to determine their condition. Once they have the
results, they will be able to access the list of participating dental clinics
to schedule their free check-up.
Tooth sensitivity
or dentine hypersensitivity is a common problem; in fact, one in three people
suffer from this condition[i].
Characterised by a sharp, sudden pain to your tooth, the symptoms of tooth
sensitivity can be associated with a variety of external stimuli such as
eating, drinking, tooth brushing and sometimes breathing[ii] (especially
in colder climates), all of which can interrupt your favourite moments and have
a significant impact on the sufferer’s quality of life.
A global survey
by GlaxoSmithKline
(GSK) found that the pain sensation from tooth sensitivity took
the pleasure out of eating and drinking in 70% of the people surveyed, while
nearly 60% of people have to chew their food into smaller pieces to prevent
triggering of pain[iii].
Meanwhile, about a quarter of the people surveyed claimed to hide the way they
are eating because of the pain3.
“I have some patients who visit my clinic after years of
putting off their dental check-ups, often hearing the excuses of them being too
busy to schedule a visit, or having no reason to visit if they experience no
problems with their teeth,” said Dr Ng Woan Tyng,
President of the Malaysian Dental Association.
“Unfortunately, in the majority of cases when an individual
is suffering a severe tooth problem, the damage could have been prevented if
they had checked their teeth earlier. As such, I always encourage my patients
to check
their teeth at least once a year to ensure that their teeth
remain healthy.
“Tooth sensitivity is a problem which is often brushed aside
by patients. Experiencing a sudden sharp pain in your teeth whilst trying to
enjoy food or drink is usually the first sign of tooth sensitivity, and
constantly ignoring the pain will eventually result in lower quality of life.
We are pleased to be supporting Sensodyne Malaysia to provide free check-ups
for this common oral problem, and, in doing so, hope to heighten the public’s
awareness of the importance of visiting their dentists.” she said.
Sensodyne Malaysia’s ‘Check-Up’
campaign aims to provide free dental check-ups to all Malaysians, with close to
400 participating dental clinics throughout the month of August 2017.

pledge and stand against tooth sensitivity, we are launching the ‘Check-Up’

to visit their dentists and diagnose their condition appropriately,” said Dessi Lavery, Area
