Fair & Lovely, for the third year now, continues to
invest in the potential of young women, to enable them to carve their future
through education. Scholarships worth RM200,000 were awarded
to 40 women undergraduates in local public universities through the Fair
& Lovely Scholarship 2018. The scholarship programme was initiated as part
of Fair & Lovely’s brand promise to encourage women to have the confidence to pursue their dreams and enjoy
a brighter future through education.
This year, Fair & Lovely took a step further to
establish a virtual community for these 40 recipients. The
platform is to encourage these young women to interact within the community and
obtain latest updates from Unilever Malaysia on available opportunities. Through
the virtual community platform, Fair & Lovely is developing a program that
connects students with the industry and gives them access to world-class
Unilever programs. Workshops on interview skills and career sharing sessions on
leadership roles for women will be provided by Unilever Malaysia’s female
leaders.
For the first time, the students
will also be fast-tracked for industrial placements within Unilever Malaysia. Recipients
who apply for the internship placement will have an added advantage as they
will be prioritised for the screening process.
“At Fair & Lovely, we believe that education, confidence and
self-belief are essential to empower women and positively impact society. By
creating pathways through the scholarship, career guidance and internship
opportunities, we want these young women to be ready to pursue their dreams and
take control of their destiny,” said Lin Meiyi, Brand
Manager of Fair & Lovely, Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn. Bhd, at the
ceremony today.
This year, the final 40 undergraduates were chosen from
seven participating local public universities with the highest votes. A total
of 20,100 applications were received, compared to last year’s 12,044. Since
2016, the Fair & Lovely Scholarship has helped 80 young women undergraduates.
At the scholarship presentation ceremony, the 40 young
women were given RM5,000 each as funding to assist with necessities such as
tuition fees and books for their tertiary education. The 40 students
shortlisted were from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM),
Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (KUIS), Universiti Malaya (UM), Kolej
Universiti Poly-Tech Mara (KUPTM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI),
Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).
Their requirements were a minimum of 3.0 CGPA apart from being
actively involved in co-curricular activities.
More than just a beauty brand, Fair & Lovely is
also a brand that shares the philosophy of encouraging women to achieve their
dreams and carving out their own destiny by empowering them with inner strength
and confidence. Present at the event, professional speaker, Wawa Idris conducted
a personal development and grooming workshop to further boost the students’ confidence.
Nor Fazira binti Zarinol, one of the scholarship recipients
from University Malaya quoted, “I am so thankful to be one of the winners of
the Fair & Lovely Scholarship this year! I am glad that with this
scholarship, I will be able to focus on my studies as I would not need to work
part time to fund my studies for the upcoming semester.
Thanks to Fair & Lovely, I am excited to know that all scholarship recipients will have career and leadership opportunities through industrial placements with Unilever Malaysia. This will make me more confident when the time comes for me to attend job interviews and eventually start my career!”
At the event, Fair & Lovely’s brand ambassador
Daiyan Trisha emphasised the importance of education and confidence in
achieving one’s dreams, “I believe education is the most important and powerful
tool you can receive, that can bring you most success. The more knowledge you
gain, the more opportunities will open up to allow you to achieve better
possibilities in career and personal growth.”
“The Fair & Lovely Scholarship programme supports
young women to pursue their education and empowers them to be confident, and
this coincides with my belief and I couldn’t be more proud and grateful to be
part of this initiative for the third year running. I am truly excited to be
able to continue inspiring the lives of young women out there,” added Daiyan.
